This is obviously not in CA - but it's really close to Northern California. 
This looks like a good position with a decent salary.  

 
Approximate Annual Salary:  $59,779.44 to $89,846.64

The Nevada State Library, Archives and Public Records located in Carson City is seeking qualified applicants.
 
The Position
 
Incumbents function as managers who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of subordinate supervisors; develop policies and procedures; and allocate staff and resources to accomplish goals and objectives.
 
This position works within the Department of Administration's Division of State Library, Archives and Public Records and is located in Carson City, NV. The position will work as an advocate for the information management community in areas of public libraries, web services, literacy, access for those with limitations, digital library, archives access and other technology projects, the incumbent is tasked with setting priorities and objectives within the framework of statutory requirements, mandatory planning documents, and initiatives agreed upon with other Divisional Administrative staff. The Assistant Administrator develops and monitors budgets; reviews payments for contractors and other expenditures; creates proposals for funding library programs and handles all aspects of administering funded programs; setting schedules and developing contracts with consultants to implement programs. This position will also provide professional advice and technical assistance through on-site visits and telecommunications or written correspondence with government officials, library staff and library boards of trustees, information management associations, professional organizations and citizen groups in order to coordinate library, archives and information repository services. Attending both state and national conferences and other training sessions will be necessary in order to develop and implement a working plan to accomplish the Agency's principal assignments. The ideal candidate will have experience in leading and motivating employees; exhibit the ability to create a positive work environment and demonstrate strength in providing quality customer service.
 
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Master's degree in a program accredited by the American Library Association or a Master's degree from an accredited college or university in history, public administration or closely related field and five years of increasingly responsible professional library and/or archives management experience which included developing library and/or archival program policies; developing and implementing work plans, developing and managing public and private grants; developing and monitoring a budget, and managing, evaluating and revising programs. At least two years of experience must have included managerial and administrative responsibility for program and policy development, supervising professional staff and overseeing a comprehensive library and/or archives management program; OR certification as a Certified Archivist and five years of experience as described above.
