Description:
Under the general direction of a dean, an Associate Librarian is responsible for providing reference, instruction, collection development, access services, technical services, and outreach to students, faculty, and staff.  There is currently one tenure-track position with the initial assignment being located at Ventura College, pending board approval. All academic employees are subject to assignment in any college of the District depending upon staffing needs as defined within the terms of the VCCCD/AFT Agreement. Nontraditional assignments such as evening, weekend, or off-site assignments may be made with consent of faculty member, management or when special conditions exist on a campus as defined within the terms of the VCCCD/AFT agreement.

Representative Duties:
·         Provide reference assistance to students, faculty, and staff.
·         Teach research methods, information literacy, bibliographic and library instruction sessions to students and other patrons in one-on-one, classroom, and distance mediated instructional settings. 
·         Collaborate with faculty with regard to student assignments, collection needs, and integration of information literacy into the college curriculum.
·         Perform original cataloging of library materials in all formats; integrate online journals and e-books into the library catalog; assist lower-level staff with copy cataloging on an as needed basis.
·         Design and produce research guides, information literacy tutorials, program reports, and other resources in print, web-based and multimedia formats.
·         Plan and coordinate collection development activities, including analysis, acquisition, selection, deselection, vendor interaction, and budget allocation to ensure the subject collection meets curriculum needs.
·         Coordinate the purchase of print and non-print library materials and resources in collaboration with faculty within each discipline.
·         Assist in grant proposal writing and post-award documentation.
·         Research, promote and implement interactive multimedia such as technology mediated instruction, interactive video conferencing, and other emerging instructional technologies.
·         Participate in the development and implementation of library policies and procedures; participate in the program review process for the library.
·         Evaluate the collection and coordinate activities related to removing books from the collection with input from faculty; evaluate the usefulness of donated materials.
·         Promote library resources and services to faculty, students, and campus groups; plan and present library tours.
·         Plan and implement library-oriented programming, such as displays, library events, etc.
·         Attend and participate in department, division, campus, and district meetings and committees; may participate in articulation and matriculation related activities.
·         Collaborate with other library faculty on a regular basis to develop, assess, and revise, as appropriate, measurable student learning outcomes.
·         Provide work direction to student workers.
·         Perform related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's in library science, library and information science; OR the equivalent*; OR possession of an appropriate California Community College Credential.

Preferred Qualifications:
·         Education, training, or experience with emerging digital technologies/trends and standards in cataloging and metadata, with experience in original cataloging and strategic collection maintenance.
·         Education, training, or experience with strategic planning and oversight of library digital technologies that enhance, integrate, and automate library resources and processes.

·         Education, training or experience with the development of online research guides and online tutorials for students to use, regardless of location or mode of delivery.

Major Job Duties:
Under the general direction of the Collections Coordinator, the Electronic Resources Assistant facilitates consistent and reliable access to the e-resources provided by the library for the support of teaching, learning, and research. This individual performs a range of activities throughout the life cycle of e-resources, including ordering, activating, customizing, renewing, canceling, and trouble-shooting the library's databases, e-books, e-journals, and other web-based information sources. Additionally, the Electronic Resources Assistant is responsible for gathering statistics and providing reports on e-resource usage and expenditures. The person in this position also assists in the analysis and evaluation of licensing and loan agreements, consortial offers, and new e-resource products and collections technologies.

Qualifications:

Mill Valley Public Library is always accepting applications for industrious and detail-oriented individuals with a flexible schedule to perform part-time paging services. Applications are held on file for 12 months and interviews are conducted thrice yearly in February, June and October.

ABOUT THE POSITION:

Summary:
Provides technical library materials distribution services connected with inventorying and
cataloging instructional and library documents.

Distinguishing Career Features:
The Library Materials Technician represents a blending of library and central distribution services
for instructional support. This position requires the ability to provide advanced copy cataloging.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
·         Receives and prepares instructional and library materials including books, periodicals,
·         microfilm, and media materials for introduction into the library collections.
·         Performs original on-line cataloging functions according to District established process.
·         Selects, downloads, verifies, and inputs bibliographic records and descriptions to on-line
·         databases. Bar codes newly cataloged materials.
·         Assigns subject headings, classification/call numbers, and call notes. Refers to subject
·         cataloging manuals and free floating subdivisions. Determines where book will be located in
·         library circulation areas.
·         Processes print and non-print materials for introduction into the library materials collection,
·         including cataloging, preparing acquisitions in the on-line card catalog, preparing and
·         verifying labels and pockets and affixing identification labels to materials.
·         Prepares and maintains manual and computerized records and files of instructor reserve
·         materials. Send lists of materials to each instructor for verification.
·         Receives and checks books and other materials against invoice to verify for accuracy. Checks
·         for duplicates and verifies that all continuations follow succession.
·         Maintains ongoing integrity of library databases by adding, revising, and updating records to
·         change or enhance tags and fields affecting public access to information. Assists library staff
·         at sites with troubleshooting the automated library systems.
·         Catalogs internet sites for library use that comply with coding rules and standards for
·         electronic resources. Tests links to web sites and verifies that access to sites are valid. Tests
·         and links to on-line public access catalogs.
·         May monitor periodical subscriptions, ensuring complete listing and documentation of
·         holdings.
·         Prepares a variety of records and lists for the libraries including subject bibliographies,
·         acquisition and circulation lists. Maintains up-to-date electronic card catalogs.
·         May perform some or all of the duties of an Instructional Materials Technician on an
·         intermittent basis to balance departmental workload.
·         May process inter-library loan requests. Searches and transfers requested materials to
·         locations and individuals. Monitors in-and-out distribution and location of publications.
·         Maintains up-to-date knowledge and skills relating to the duties and responsibilities.
·         May perform trainings for Library Media Technicians and substitutes.
·         Performs other related duties as assigned that support the objectives of the position.

Qualifications:
Knowledge and Skills:
The position requires working knowledge of library on-line cataloging services, sufficient to
prepare materials for circulation and access by students. Requires knowledge of and skill at
intermediate referencing and conducting bibliographic searches. Requires a working knowledge
of machine-readable classification and coding. Requires working knowledge of general library
operations, goals, and objectives. Requires sufficient human relations skills to convey technical
concepts and to resolve urgent needs. Requires sufficient arithmetic skills to arrange materials in
numerical sequences and to calculate sums. Requires sufficient writing skills to document
instructions on use of library services.

Abilities:
Requires the ability to perform all of the duties of the position, to process and catalog materials
into circulation, and to develop and maintain internet links. Requires the ability to perform
intermediate referencing and bibliographic services. Requires the ability to follow detailed
procedures such as standard library cataloging and filing rules. Must be able to explain library
services, layout, rules, and policies. Requires the ability to deal courteously with library patrons
including students and faculty. Requires the ability to work cooperatively and productively with
others.

Physical Abilities:
Incumbent must be able to function indoors in an office and/or library circulation desk
environment engaged in work primarily of a sedentary nature. Requires hearing and speech
ability for ordinary conversation and to project voice to a small group. Requires sufficient
manual and/or finger dexterity to type/keyboard and otherwise operate microcomputers and other
office equipment. Requires ambulatory ability to sit, walk, to move about office and campus
environs, and to lift and carry light to medium weight materials on an intermittent basis.

Education and Experience:
The position typically requires a high school diploma, Associates degree with courses in library
subjects and two years of experience in an academic library performing circulation and

Definition and Class Characteristics: This position is considered a Youth Services Librarian I and serves both the Madelyn Helling Library and the Grass Valley Library Branches. The eligible list established from this recruitment will be used to fill part-time and full-time, regular or temporary positions as vacancies occur or the need arises. Under general supervision, performs professional library work in the Nevada County Library System; manages, directs and implements a major service area and/or a branch library; performs a variety of administrative and operational functions in support of the Library Department; and performs related work as required. Librarian I: This is the entry level classification in the professional librarian series.  Incumbents are responsible for a major countywide library program under the direction of the County Librarian or designee, and may supervise subordinate staff in a designated program area.
