POSITION OVERVIEW
The Full-Time Librarian supports teaching, learning, and student success through library instruction, research assistance, collection development, and outreach. Working collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students, the librarian helps foster information literacy, promotes equitable access to resources, and contributes to the development of innovative library services and programs that serve the college community.
Key responsibilities include:
Teaching students information literacy through course-integrated instruction sessions and at the reference desk
Delivering reference instruction to students, faculty, and staff
Providing training and instructional support to faculty, staff, and students
Maintaining the library's interface with online courses and supporting online learning
Participating in collection development for both electronic and print resources
Developing, maintaining, and organizing electronic information resources across the Library
Ensuring compliance with federal regulations, Title 5 requirements, and College of Marin standards related to access to information

ONLINE INSTRUCTION
All faculty members must be available to provide instruction in the classroom (in person). Please note that the College does not offer online-only teaching assignments.
Essential Functions
Provide instruction in the use of information resources and the development of information competency skills:
Prepare and present general and subject-specific course integrated library instruction, including the use of the databases, web resources, and the online catalog.
Teach library/information competency skills workshops or courses
Assess and utilize appropriate technologies for delivering instruction to on-campus, remote and online students.
Teach library skills/research and information competency courses
Collaborate with other college faculty in developing information competency components within their disciplines.
Facilitate electronic access of library resources and services to students, faculty and staff.
Act as the primary liaison to the Information Technology (IT) Department in order to coordinate the maintenance, troubleshooting and upgrades for the integrated library system, and other library computers and peripherals.
Instruct library staff, faculty, and students as needed, in the use and operation of a variety of library resources such as databases and the integrated library system.
Contribute to the maintenance of and organization of the Library's online resources, including LibGuides.
Assess and utilize appropriate technologies for delivering library services to on-campus, remote and online students.
Maintain the library’s online resources, which may include eBooks, and research databases.
Ensure that access to library resources and services are ADA compliant.
Develop a system of ongoing training to support librarians’ online presence in all web-based courses.
Act as liaison with other libraries and consortia for the purpose of enhancing resources available to COM students, faculty and staff.
Collection Development:
Assist in the selection, acquisition, and de-selection of all library materials in order to maintain and enhance the library collection;
Actively promote the use of library resources and services by assisting faculty in identifying, locating, acquiring, offering, and using library resources and services to support classroom instruction;
Be an effective liaison to faculty in assigned departments/programs.
Reference:
Provide research/reference assistance to students, faculty and staff.
Serve regularly scheduled reference hours, including evenings and possibly weekends.
Other Duties:
Advise, assist and evaluate student performance and learning outcomes;
Contribute to development of program policies and procedures;
Participate in professional evaluations, departmental and college professional committees and activities;

BARGAINING UNIT, TENURE & RETIREMENT PLAN
UPM – Full-time Faculty:
Employees in this position classification are represented by the United Professors of Marin (UPM/AFT 1610). Faculty members are required to comply fully with the United Professors of Marin Collective Bargaining Agreement, including payment of union dues, contributions to California State Teachers’ Retirement System (CalSTRS) and any other required contributions if applicable. General information regarding rights and responsibilities under the Agreement can be found in the Collective Bargaining Agreements section located on the Human Resources website.
Tenure Eligibility for Probationary Contract Faculty:
Employees in this position classification are considered Probationary Contract Faculty. Faculty members must receive satisfactory performance evaluations for four (4) academic years to obtain tenure status as set forth by Education Code Section 87600 et seq. For the purposes of this provision, an academic year is July 1 through June 30. SALARY INFORMATION
FLSA Status: Exempt
Please refer to the United Professors of Marin (UPM/AFT) salary schedule in the Classification & Compensation section of the Human Resources web site. Step 14 is the highest entering step for probationary contract faculty new to the District. Salary placement is non-negotiable and is dependent upon verified background and experience. Full-time faculty hired mid-academic year must complete three (3) semesters before becoming eligible for salary step advancement.

A. POSITION PURPOSE
The Santa Clara University Library Help Desk is the first point of contact for all people entering the Learning Commons. The Library Help Desk staff are available to offer assistance for all the hours that the library is open. The Library Help Desk Manager has a critical role in ensuring the delivery of excellent service and timely access to a range of services offered by the library.
This Library Help Desk manager is responsible for directly supervising two full-time staff as well as the student workers who are employed by the Access & Delivery Services department to staff the library’s help desk. This position is responsible for ensuring that all staff and students who provide services at the help desk are trained and equipped with the skills and understanding of library procedures to execute them effectively and confidently. This position has the primary responsibility for coverage of the library’s help desk including scheduling desk shifts for all student assistants and staff.
This position reports to the Head of Access & Delivery Services (A&DS).
B. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Manage and Coordinate Service Desk Staffing and Training (75%)
Manages the University Library Help Desk services, including management of all operational aspects of circulation and library help
Directs professional development and performance management for a team of two full-time employees
Develops an effective and efficient staff of approximately 40 student assistants by recruiting and hiring applicants, providing ongoing training in Library Help Desk operations and specific responsibilities, supervising work activities, and evaluating performances
Manages Library Help Desk scheduling for staff and student assistants, including approximately 20-25 hours weekly of direct shift coverage
Builds and maintains a robust, intentional student worker training program, focusing on continuous improvement and student professional learning outcomes
Designs, implements, and coordinates all aspects of the annual student worker “Book Camp” training at the start of Fall term.
Models excellent customer service and establishes best practices for all library help desk staff
Actively reinforces training and customer service standards throughout the year with students and full-time staff
Reviews and approves timecards for two full-time staff and Library Help Desk Student Assistants
2. Operations Management and Assessment (20%)
Establishes and assesses customer service goals and objectives for Library Help Desk services and team
Develops, documents, implements, assesses, revises, and communicates internal operational policies, procedures, and workflows for circulation and Library Help Desk operations
Maintains and updates building hours and communicates this information to other relevant parties
Serves as primary technical and operations backup when the Automated Retrieval System (ARS) Maintenance Supervisor is unavailable
Works collaboratively with other department units and library departments to ensure that service goals are met.
Manages inventory for the department, proactively forecasting resource needs to ensure uninterrupted day-to-day workplace operations

Work Schedule

Position Summary

Typical Duties

Minimum Qualifications
EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION: Two years of experience directly related to the duties of the position; OR one year of experience directly related to the duties of the position and a Library and Information Technology Certificate; OR an Associate's degree from an accredited institution in Library and Information Technology or equivalent.
Promotional: One year of experience performing duties at the level of a Clerk III in the Los Rios Community College District. (Promotional applies to current, regular Classified employees working with the Los Rios Community College District.)
