The Library collections include a broad selection of disciplinary and transdisciplinary scholarly materials in physical and electronic formats:  books, journals, audiovisual materials, research databases, and academic tools.

The Library supports the research and learning in all four schools at CIIS, and the collection is particularly strong in the fields of: counseling, psychology, philosophy and religion, East-West comparative studies, integrative health, social and cultural anthropology, human sexuality, diversity and social justice, acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine, various facets of an integral worldview, and the perennial wisdom.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Metadata, cataloging and technical services
  • Creates original, complex and copy cataloging records for materials in all formats.  Reviews and implements new workflows as technologies change.
  • Creates metadata for CIIS publications, open access materials, or other freely available resources deposited in campus institutional repository (Digital Commons).
  • Creates metadata and assumes a leadership role in designing, implementing and conducting training, resource description, and data analysis for CIIS projects where metadata is an essential component.
  • Performs regular maintenance of metadata to keep up with changes in standards, formats, vendor platforms, and the Library systems, as well as constantly improving user experience.
  • Troubleshoots access issues in concert with the Electronic Resources Librarian and ensures metadata linking across platforms as required. Anticipates related problems and proposes solutions as appropriate.
  • Serves as a resource for best practices in creating non-MARC metadata (e.g. for digital collections and/or materials deposited in the institutional repository)
  • Documents metadata, cataloging and technical services policies, procedures, and statistics as needed; prepares reports on cataloging and collection maintenance activities.
  • Prepares Library materials for use.  Trains and oversees student workers in book preparation, repair, and related tasks.
  • Tracks technical processing supplies and inventory. Assesses costs and reports year ahead needs to Director for approval and to Operations Manager for ordering.
  • Maintains the collections, in all formats:
  • Assures consonance between bibliographic records and library holdings.
  • Reviews and analyzes new and changing e-content licenses, in collaboration with the Electronic Resources Librarian, to keep metadata and local bibliographic data up to date.
  • Collaborate in collection care projects such as inventory, shelf-reading, and shifting.
  • Identifies materials in need of repair, candidates for de-acquisition, and candidates for special collections.
  • Acquisitions
  • Works with the Library Director to evaluate, maintain, and update collection development policy, collection planning, decision rubrics and workflows, as well as to coordinate, manage, and plan the Library's acquisitions budget. 
  • Evaluates and analyzes all library collections to support University curriculum and strategic plan.
  • Oversees all acquisitions activities, including ordering and receiving materials in all formats via firm order, DDA, EBA, approval plans, as well as accepting donations, in collaboration with Library staff and faculty.
  • Verifies all purchase requests for accuracy, fit, and suitability of format, and prevents inappropriate duplication of materials.
  • Maintains relations with vendors to ensure orders are filled, accurate, and received in good condition.  Regularly reviews current and prospective vendors to assess service and pricing options and renegotiates service fees and contractual terms with the appropriate vendors.
  • Moves acquired items into metadata and bibliographic description workflows and ensures proper technical processing.
  • Collaborates with Operations Manager throughout the invoicing and budget accounting lifecycles to develop workflows that ensure acquisition purchases/returns are correctly fulfilled and invoiced, then processed and tracked for budget utilization and analysis.
  • Trains and supervises Library staff members and student assistants in acquisitions workflows and collection development policies.
  • Prepares on-demand and seasonal statistical and narrative reports for acquisitions activities.
  • Reference and instruction services support
  • Designs, creates, curates and maintains Library content to support reference, instruction, and Library operations: LibGuides, FAQs, handouts, virtual and physical displays, demonstration videos and other informational and training materials.
  • Liaise with academic programs, acting as point person for assigned program(s), for communications and collection development.
  • Monitors reference chat service (Springshare LibChat) and support ticketing system (Springshare LibAnswers).
  • As needed, provide instruction and reference services.

  • Participates in cross training of interlibrary loan services to ensure critical departmental responsibilities are performed in case of absence of personnel.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 


  • Demonstrate a commitment to access, equity, diversity, and inclusion through remediation of institutional biases inherent in cataloging and metadata work.
  • Master of Library Science from an ALA-accredited program.
  • Two years of cataloging experience:
  • Proficiency with copy cataloging and enhancing records for materials in all formats.
  • Cataloging electronic book collections, serials, and other digital resources.
  • Proven expertise with original cataloging of books and other material formats (e.g., audio, video, and/or digital collections).
  • Ability to batch edit MARC records using tools such as MarcEdit or OpenRefine
  • Ability to apply Library of Congress MARC classification tables, authorities and subject headings, AACR2R, and Library of Congress Rule Interpretations.
  • Ease in performing authority control.
  • Experience using OCLC Connexion and/or OCLC WorldShare Collection Manager.
  • Knowledge of relevant foundational metadata and technologies including, but not limited to, RDA, LCC, LCSH, MARC21 and linked data models and tools such as LRM, RDF, RDFa, BIBFRAME, etc.
  • Knowledge of non-MARC metadata schemas including, but not limited to, Dublin Core, and MODS.
  • Experience with digital repositories and/or repository vendors and providers and demonstrated ability to develop and implement local metadata schema (such as Dublin Core) and cross-map data between schemas.
  • Prior responsibility for library acquisition and collection development activities.
  • Experience with vendor relations to manage Library accounts, and for technical support.
  • One year of experience supervising employees.

The County of Yolo is recruiting for one regular, full-time Youth Services Librarian position at the Yolo County Library.  The selected candidate will be assigned to Youth Services at the Arthur F. Turner Community Library and will work with a team of professionals, paraprofessionals and community members to deliver quality services to children ages 0 to 8 in the City of West Sacramento, and the East Yolo region. The position will be responsible for planning, developing, implementing and evaluating system-wide, local and County wide programs and outreach services to families and youth of all ages, with a focus on early childhood literacy for children 0-5 years old.

Services include managing a wide range of diverse family programming, play area, afterschool enrichment activities, building partnerships with other youth serving agencies and supporting grant funded services through First 5 Yolo, family resource centers and other community based organizations. The County of Yolo is recruiting for one regular, full-time Outreach and Programming Librarian position at the Yolo County Library.  The selected candidate will work primarily at the Mary L. Stephens Davis Branch Library, and will be required to work evening and weekend hours as part of their regular schedule. They will also provide programs and outreach services throughout the County of Yolo, focusing on reaching communities that are underserved. They will coordinate with various government and non-government organizations to most efficiently serve the communities.  The candidate selected will be placed at the Librarian I or Librarian II level depending on their background and experience and at the discretion of the appointing authority.

Distinguishing Characteristics


The Librarian I/II class has two salary levels. Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and the level at which appointments are made is at the discretion of the appointing authority. The Librarian I is the entry level in this class series. Initially, incumbents work under closer supervision, and are given detailed instructions in the performance of routine tasks that are more structured and repetitive than those assigned to the Librarian II. As skills and knowledge are developed, incumbents are expected to perform increasingly responsible and difficult assignments.  At the discretion of the appointing authority, incumbents may advance to Librarian II after demonstrating the ability to perform the full journey duties of the class, which generally requires two years of experience as a Librarian I.

The Librarian II is the journey level in the class series. Incumbents work under general supervision and are expected to be proficient in performing a variety of responsible and more difficult professional library work. Specific duties of individual positions may vary, depending on assignment, but the preponderant responsibilities of all positions in this class are related to system-wide functions that include circulation, program, technology and reference services. While some Librarian II incumbents supervise paraprofessional library staff and volunteers, all Librarian II incumbents are expected to provide lead direction and guidance to entry level Librarians, paraprofessional library staff, extra help employees and/or volunteers.
 
Incumbents in this class report to a Library Regional Manager or other management personnel. While the Librarian II class may supervise staff in some instances, it does not supervise other professional Librarians.

Essential Functions


Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:.

  • Provides system-wide library services such as archives, circulation, collection development, reference and reader's advisory, technology services, and youth, teen, or adult programming.
  • Provides assistance to customers through a variety of methods to ensure that customers have the ability to effectively utilize all library resources; assists customers with utilizing social media and on-line tools, library programs, and a variety of reference services; teaches basic internet searching and other computer classes as assigned.
