Library Assistant (PT) - San Francisco

Taylor & Associates is recruiting for a part time (2-3 days/week) library assistant to work in a law firm library. This will be a temp-to-hire position.

Responsibilities

Open, sort, file, distribute and process library mail. Work with vendors and filing service on missing items. Maintain routing and desk copy lists (adding and subtracting people as needed) to ensure accurate ordering.

Respond to requests from attorneys and staff about the contents of the library and locating particular volumes, and making copies of requested materials.

Prepare MCLE materials for use by attorneys including uploading licensed materials to Intranet, library catalog and other locations. Assist in coordination of MCLE seminars.

Contact local libraries, government agencies and other entities to locate information from external sources. Maintain and update ILL database.

Contribute to the maintenance of library records, catalogs, indexes, etc. including printing labels, creating circulation records and deleting old records.

Experience

  • Knowledge of library systems. Law library experience a plus. Ability to communicate with calm, courtesy and tact with co-workers, attorneys, supervisors, vendors and others
  • Detail oriented
  • Able to work independently
  • Customer service oriented

COMPUTER SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Intermediate level of ability with MS Word, MS Outlook, MS Excel

Minimum qualifications include an MLS from an ALA accredited library school and at least six years of progressively responsible public library experience, including at least two years at a supervisory level. The successful candidate must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills; demonstrated leadership ability; strong planning and budgeting skills; and the ability to work collaboratively with public officials, employees and community groups; public speaking; and the ability to relate library and arts services to community needs. Successful experience as a public library director or assistant, associate or deputy director, experience with public art and/or cultural programs, and experience working in a union environment are
highly desirable.

Compensation. The starting salary range is $119,340-$134,256 (dependent on experience and qualifications) with an excellent benefits package.

Librarian, World Language Selector - Sacramento Public Library

The Sacramento Public Library is building a new future and transforming the library into our community’s most valued resource.
This is an exciting new full-time position in our Collection Services Department. We are seeking candidates for our World Language Selector position.
This position will be responsible for selecting World Language materials, AV selection, and developing and coordinating our system-wide replacement process.

The successful candidate will have a working knowledge of World Language collections; experience in materials selection; excellent communication skills;
time management skills; and a willingness and ability to travel to the 28 branches in our library system on a regular basis. The work schedule is Monday
through Friday, 8am-5pm, but schedules may vary due to the needs of the organization. Staff are expected to be available to work on weekday evenings
and weekends if needed. Applicants who possess a passion for libraries and a sincere desire to serve the public are encouraged to apply.

Minimum Qualifications:
· Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited college or university.

Duties include but are not limited to:

· Work collaboratively with Outreach services in promotion of the Library’s collections;

Job Summary: Performs a variety of professional library work, including reference and readers’ advisory services, youth services, cataloging, selection
and collection management, programming, staff and customer training, special projects; and performs other related duties as assigned.

Electronic Services Librarian - UC Davis Mabie Law Library

Responsibilities: Reporting to the Associate Director, the position has the following responsibilities:

Manages the library's electronic information resources, improving access to electronic resources, and providing technical support, including assistance with authentication, license agreements and payments. Provide faculty, students, and others access to and assistance in using electronic resources. Helps with the evaluation and acquisition of electronic resources. Maintains and makes accessible content files of electronic resources. Collects and reports appropriate user and system statistics and provides year-end reports. Assists department accounting unit as needed in maintaining subscription status, licensing information, and payments. Arranges trials of new resources.

Provides reference services as part of the reference team, including participation in the faculty-liaison program, co-teaching Advanced Legal Research, hosting brown bags, providing selective in-class bibliographic training, assisting with training programs offered student RA's, journal editors, clinical students, and others. Assists with setting up personal profiles for law faculty tailored to specific research and scholarship.

Acts as technology resource for various library applications. Coordinating with the Law School IT unit as needed, implements various computer applications to update webpage content and design displays on the library's webpage, develops and produces Research Guides, produces the eResearch Advisor newsletter, and continues projects such as the development of an external blog, library Facebook presence, etc. Assists with assessing computer services requirements, hardware and software purchases, and desktop support.

The Library is part of the UC Davis School of Law and provides services to over 590 professional and master?s degree candidates, law and campus faculty, members of the legal profession in the Northern and Central California region, and members of the public. There are 16 employees, (7 librarians and 9 staff), and four departments comprising the library: Acquisitions/Serials, Cataloging, Public Services and Administration. Archival Assistant - Los Angeles

LAC Group seeks an Archival Assistant for a temporary full-time position working at a university library in Los Angeles, CA. This position is anticipated to last 2 months. We are looking for someone with a background in archives and a demonstrated an understanding of basic archival practices and processing.

Responsibilities:

  • Inventory of video tape collection (U-Matic, DVC-PRO, and BetaSP)
  • Creating a best practices spreadsheet for description and arrangement of tapes
  • Establish a workflow for the project; Data recorded for each tape in the spreadsheet will be used to create an EAD finding aid
  • Evaluate tapes for issues with preservation and make recommendations in this regard, and identifying access points and indexing terms

Qualifications

  • Candidates should have a background in archives and demonstrated an understanding of basic archival practices and processing
  • Solid interpersonal, oral and written communication skills are also necessary
  • Previous experience in processing video materials, preferred
  • Knowledge of best practices for description video materials, preferred
  • Knowledge of video preservation standards, preferred
  • Knowledge of HTML and EAD for the eventual online presentation of the finding aid, preferred

Work Hours: This position is full-time (40 hours). The assistant must work between approximately 8:00am-5:00pm, Monday – Friday. If someone wanted to work twenty or thirty hours per week, this could be accommodated.
