Truckee
Meadows Community College (TMCC), located in Reno, Nevada invites applications
from experienced, visionary, and creative librarians to provide leadership and
expertise as the Director of Library Services. The successful candidate will
have the ability to articulate a vision for the library being integral to
student success.
Responsible for planning, coordinating and supervising all
of the library’s service components. Oversees information resources, hardware
and software, in support of students, staff and faculty information and
research needs. Plans, coordinates and supervises all daily operations of
library service areas. Directs all library activities for the college,
including reference and information, curriculum, periodicals and media. Evaluates
current services and recommends changes in the library policy and procedures.
Position Description
Selects, supervises, and evaluates library staff; provides
day-to-day problem solving and training of staff. Develops and supervises
assigned budget allocation. Responsible for safety and security of library
patrons, building, hardware, and software materials. Evaluates, recommends and
selects equipment and materials in direct support of curriculum needs.
Represents the library on campus and NSHE committees, councils, and teams.
Serves as a liaison with other institutions as well as the community regarding library
services and use of the facilities and materials. Oversee the collection and
maintenance of statistical data needed for evaluation of services as well as
for state and federal reports. Responsible for electronic, print and non-print
collection development.
Minimum
Qualifications
1. Bachelor’s degree in library science, information
science, business administration, public administration or related field from
an accredited institution.
2. Three years of experience in a related position in a
Library setting.
3. Two years of supervisory or management experience.
Preferred
Qualifications
1. Master’s degree in Library Science or Information Science
from a regionally accredited institution.
2. Five years of managerial experience, including
supervision of employees.
3. Demonstrated expertise in planning and management of
budgets.
4. Experience and expertise with 21st Century library
practices and programming, new and emerging technologies, including online
library systems, electronic databases, and support for online education.
5. Demonstrated expertise in assessment of instruction,
library resources and services.
6. Knowledge of regional institutional accreditation as
related to the library.

of Employment
This is a full-time, non-tenure track, administrative
position reporting to the Vice President Academic Affairs.

Responsibilities
1. Manage the library staff effectively to create a team
that works well together to deliver excellent services aimed at student
success.
2. Provide leadership and administrative responsibility in
planning and managing all areas of traditional and emerging library services
and work well with academic support and tutoring centers.
3. Advocate for library staff, budgets and resources for the
library.
4. Effectively communicate both in written and oral form
with library staff, TMCC faculty, staff and students, other NSHE institutions,
and the community at large.
5. Promote and support professional growth of employees in
the library.
6. Manage budget and other resources allocated to the
library and its branches.
7. Ensure library policies and procedures are current with
college and system policies.
8. Work with faculty and staff to develop program goals
commensurate with the role and mission of the college.
9. Develop, implement, and manage a system for assessing the
effectiveness of library services and ensuring continuous quality improvement
for the library.
10. Contribute to academic learning outcomes and assessment
efforts.
11. Work closely with academic departments to align
resources and services in support of curriculum and research needs.
12. Work with local libraries and other NSHE institutions to
expand resources for students and faculty.
13. Perform assigned duties in a manner consistent with
standards, mission, and goals of Truckee Meadows Community College.
14. Compliance with Sections 504/508 for library materials,
resources and services.
15. Other duties as assigned.
Starting
salary, $83,340. Dependent on education and experience.
