The Los Angeles Mission College Library is seeking an
experienced librarian who has a passion for teaching, can develop ties to the
diverse campus community, and will assist in the growth of the library
instruction program and services. The Library provides the college community
with access to organized collections and information, supports instruction, and
in collaboration with other academic programs, encourages and facilitates
information competency and critical thinking skills in all students. The department
prides itself as an innovative and collaborative group of faculty and staff who
strive to provide library services that support faculty, curriculum, and
student success. At Los Angeles Mission College, successful faculty applicants

Duties and
Responsibilities
Develop, market,
coordinate, and teach a dynamic library instruction program utilizing a variety
of teaching strategies.
Collaborate with
faculty to develop assignments that will reinforce information competency
skills.
Provide library
reference services that encourage students to be critical thinkers and lifelong
learners.
Increase students’
and faculty knowledge of library resources, including web-bases instruction.
Assist in developing
student learning outcomes and assessments.
Assist in
assessing and improving library services.
Effectively
communicate in English, orally and in writing.
Work a flexible
schedule, which may include some evening and weekend duties.
Participate in
campus shared governance and department and college initiatives.
Perform other
duties as assigned to ensure that effective library services and learning
environments for students are maintained.
Perform other
contractual duties.
Desired
Qualifications
Two years of
experience teaching at the community college level.
Two years of
experience providing reference services in a community college library.
Experience in
developing library and information competency curriculum and programs that are
responsive to student and faculty needs.
Academic training
or experience in assessing library services.
Knowledge of
online course management systems, presentation, and screen recording and
editing software.
Experience using
computer technology and software in providing reference services and
high-quality instruction.
Willingness to
participate in professional development, stay current with library trends, and
utilize new technology.
Experience with
collection development.
Experience in
grant writing.
Flexibility and an
ability to work both independently and collaboratively, with a team-oriented
perspective.
Multi-cultural
experience and/or fluency in an additional language.
Willingness to
accept varied responsibilities within the library and college.
Demonstrated
sensitivity to, and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic,
cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
