Location: Downtown San Francisco, CA (SOMA)
The San Francisco Center for Psychoanalysis, celebrating its
75th anniversary in 2017, and currently located in a quaint recently entirely
remodeled two story brick building convenient to the Powell Street
Transportation Hub, Mint Plaza and the Chronicle Building, is looking for a
part time (20hr/wk) library assistant who has more than a passing familiarity
with how psychoanalysis/psychiatry works as well as archival processing and
cataloging experience.
Work roles include shelving books, filling scan requests for
reprints through email while paying careful attention to copyright and legal
considerations, mailing books and other items, over dues, donations, copy
cataloging and other standard and non-standard library operations assignments
as they arise, and equally the willingness and curiosity to just sit down and work
on large, unprocessed archival collections of material about psychoanalysis and
psychiatry dating from 1940-1980 as well as other special projects. Knowledge
of LCSH, DACS, EAD and other ‘best practices’ standards are greatly desired, as
is experience with audiovisual cataloging and production techniques.
Seeking team player, self-starter, hard worker, experienced
Library assistant with archive experience, who has worked before in this dual
capacity and is willing to step into complex projects on both sides of the
fence.
Experience putting together online exhibits using exhibit
software such as OMEKA and experience with physical exhibits at a gallery or
museum or public programs experience is a plus.
Ability to lift a 40 lbs. weight may be required. Pay is 20$
per hour;
