Census Jobs

If you are currently out of work and need employment, the U.S. Census Bureau is hiring temporary workers. This is not library employment, however the skills used in these positions would look good on your resume. The Census Bureau has an extensive page dealing with 2010 Census Jobs. It would be a good experience for anyone.

Join the Yolo County Library Team as Assistant County Librarian! The Assistant County Librarian oversees the operations of public service for the library system of seven branches, a literacy program, community service database, and the County’s Archives and Records Center. The Library has just completed two new branches and is renovating a third facility, thanks to political and community support for library services.

The ideal candidate will possess superior leadership and interpersonal communication skills to successfully organize and direct library staff in providing exemplary library services to a diverse public in urban and rural settings.

The Assistant County Librarian:

works closely with the County Librarian in developing and implementing strategic plans, policies and procedures, planning and organizing for effective public service.
is responsible for the provision of public services with public facility managers and the Policy Team
works with the Business Services Manager to ensure that system personnel and training needs are met
works with the Program Manager to ensure that system facilities, literacy, Archives/Records and project needs are met
supervises Public Service Branch Managers and Supervisors
works with the Library Advisory Board and several Friends Groups in conjunction with County Librarian.

Requires a master’s in Library Science or MLS equivalent from an ALA-accredited program with a minimum of 5 years experience in a supervisory or administrative position in a public library. Advanced graduate coursework in public administration is preferred but not required.

Salary range for this position is $74,700-$95,400 annually.
