Summary
The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library at San José State University (SJSU) seeks a dynamic and visionary individual for the position of a tenure-track University Archivist. The University Archivist reports to the Director of Special Collections and Archives and is responsible for developing and maintaining a University Archives on the oldest public university campus in California. The University Archivist will create and implement a records management program to advance the Department’s mission to collect institutional records that document the history and culture of SJSU, from its origins as the first State Normal School in 1857 to the present. As a faculty member, the candidate participates in the library liaison program and engages in library and university governance and scholarship, which includes research, scholarly, and creative activities required for tenure and promotion.
Responsibilities:
·         Identify, select, and acquire SJSU archival collections, faculty papers, and institutional records of enduring value
·         Collaborate with records creators (e.g., SJSU departments, divisions, administrations) in developing policies and procedures for the creation, utilization, maintenance, retention, preservation, and disposition of university records
·         Prioritize and oversee the arrangement and description of archival collections in physical and digital formats, including supervision of student work
·         Promote visibility and usage of collections through instruction, outreach, public presentations, tours, exhibitions, and publications

Required Qualifications:

Summary

Position Duties
Under the general direction of the Director, Reference & Research Services, Reference Librarians provide a high level of in-depth research assistance to the UCLA Law faculty, staff, and students, including Law School departments and deans. This level of commitment offers the librarian an opportunity to work closely with a number of different individuals and units within the Law School.
In addition, Reference Librarians supervise faculty research assistants, provide reference desk service, prepare and maintain research guides, and actively participate in the teaching of legal research courses and workshops throughout the year. Reference Librarians may be assigned to an area of concentration or to projects that vary according to library needs and the Librarian's individual talents and interests. This position may also serve as a liaison to selected deans, department heads, clinics, and/or faculty members.
To effectively perform the above duties, Reference Librarians must possess a vast, in-depth knowledge of complex legal resources, covering a variety of jurisdictions in a variety of formats, in addition to a familiarity with research tools and applications in non-law academic disciplines.

Specific duties and responsibilities may include:
• Provides in-depth research assistance to Law faculty, departments, committees, and students.

Required Qualifications

LIBRARY TECHNICIAN III

Definition
Under supervision, performs routine library and clerical work in the areas of public services or materials support, either in acquisition processing and cataloging, or circulation activities, and performs other work as required.

Distinguishing Characteristics
This is the journey-level class in the Library Technician series. This class is distinguished from the Library Technician II in that the Librarian Technician III performs the full range of circulation, acquisitions processing, or similar duties and has greater responsibilities in the areas of materials management. It is distinguished from the Library Associate in that it is primarily concerned with duties related to materials and objects within the library’s collection rather than content within the materials.

Typical Duties

Preferred Qualifications
Experience ascertaining bibliographic relationships among serials, monographs, and series sufficient to understand differences and to revise/update holdings and item records. 
Experience using one or more of the following: a major bibliographic utility (such as OCLC); an integrated library system or online serials control/catalog/circulation system 
(such as Aleph); an online union catalog (such as MELVYL). 
Experience using MARC21 Format for Holdings Display, Holdings Statements for Bibliographic Items (ANSI 7.39-71) and local inventory practices. 
Experience using cataloging standards and practices sufficient to recognize and resolve discrepancies among bibliographic records in the library's databases.
