Dignity Health operates six hospitals in the Greater Sacramento Service Area - Mercy General Hospital, Mercy Hospital of Folsom, Mercy San Juan Medical Center, Methodist Hospital of Sacramento, Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital and Woodland Memorial Hospital; as well as Mercy Home Health and Hospice, and Dignity Health Medical Foundation, which includes Mercy Medical Group, Woodland Clinic and Mercy Imaging Centers. Position Summary
This position is accountable for the Medical Library operations and providing supportive services for the Greater Sacramento San Joaquin Service Area campuses and clinics.
Core Duties
Responsible for print and electronic collection development including databases, web sites, and access to full text sources
Provide services and resources on an as needed basis
Prepare collection development orders
Provide technology and web-based services, set unit goals and objectives
Develop, review and revise unit policies and procedures related directly to Library functions; and evaluate and purchase budgeted supplies and equipment
Provide Library Orientations at Medical Staff meetings
Provide consultation services as requested (time permitting)
Serve as a representative of Dignity Health Regional Medical Library in the community at large
Assisting Director/Manager in creation of the annual operating budget, to implement the regional services, strategic and operational initiatives
Assure collaborative participation with others to meet the information needs of the residents and interns of the medical centers
Educate and train staff and physicians in health care industry trends, technological advances, regulatory requirements and best practices/standards of care
Ensure the appropriate growth and development of patient services, to manage costs in a capitated managed care market. This includes evaluating and researching new methods/technology/information systems to support and improve medical education
Develop and maintain written service agreements arrangements with other approved providers for appropriate regional services to meet the needs of patrons in an integrated delivery system
Minimum Qualifications
A minimum of three (3) years of healthcare experience (or an equivalent combination of education and experience) and clinical research in a hospital setting (required)
Training in and/or working knowledge of: Computer databases, medical resources, on-line information, specialty medical indexes, NLM, Medline, Dialog, MDConsult among others
Original cataloging and use of OCLC, Melvyl, InMagic, and XML, HTML
Creation of web-based resources and training manuals using HTML
Special skills required include:
advanced computer proficiency
Ability to work independently without supervision
Ability to communicate effectively and professionally both orally and in writing to all customers (external & internal)
Provision of cost-efficient library services

Ability to initiate and implement library policies and procedures
