In support of its service and information literacy mission, the University Library at California State University, Northridge, seeks an innovative and self-motivated librarian to provide outreach and promotion of the Teacher Curriculum Center (TCC), and information literacy instruction and research consultation services to the students and faculty in the Michael D. Eisner College of Education. The selected candidate will participate in collection development for the disciplines of Education and Deaf Studies, K-12 curricular materials, the Sharon Fogarty Young Readers Collection, and the Dr. Karin J. Duran TCC Collection.

The selected candidate provides general and/or discipline-specific library and information literacy instructional services. Develops discipline-specific online research guides and/or digital learning objects (DLOs) in support of student research needs. Job Summary


The Evening and Weekend Circulation Desk and Stack Maintenance Coordinator position is part of the University Library User Experience Unit. The incumbent works respectfully and cooperatively with employees of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library to perform duties under general supervision, but works independently to achieve specified outcomes.

This position provides leadership and planning for the library’s circulation desk during evening and weekend hours. It is also responsible for Stack Maintenance on San Jose State Collections in King Library. This position is responsible for providing library services on behalf of the University.

  • Collaborate with the weekday desk coordinator to ensure consistent standards of service and training for library staff and student assistants working at the circulation desk and other library service points.

Basic Function

THE POSITION

The Human Resources Department is accepting applications for the Regular and Full-time position of Recreation and Library Supervisor in the Parks, Recreation and Libraries Department. The normal work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8 –5 pm; a flex schedule may be available. Evening and weekend work may be required.

DEFINITION

To plan, organize, direct and supervise assigned recreation, library and related community services activities and programs and facility operations within the Parks, Recreation and Libraries Department; and to perform a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives general direction from a higher level manager. Exercises direct supervision over assigned professional, technical, and support staff, as assigned.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES - Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

    Recommend and assist in the implementation of goals and objectives; establish schedules and methods for assigned recreation and/or library program activities and operations; and implement policies and procedures.

    Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise and review the work of staff involved in the development and implementation of department programs.

    Evaluate operations and activities of assigned responsibilities; recommend improvements and modifications; prepare various reports on operations and activities.

    Participate in budget preparation and administration; prepare cost estimates for budget recommendations; submit justifications for staff, supplies, equipment, and services; monitor and control expenditures.

    Participate in the selection of staff; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline procedures.

    Supervise assigned programs which may include adult/youth sports, youth/teen services and preschool/childcare, aquatics, senior services, cultural arts, literacy, education and adaptive recreation; supervise operation of museum/interpretive facilities, sports centers, libraries and community centers and associated concessions.

    Create and supervise promotion of department programs and services through flyers, pamphlets, brochures, public service announcements and news releases; prepare current website information related to programs and services; organize and hold public events.

    Develop and implement programs, activities, and events to promote library use and awareness of library services.

    Perform the most difficult professional work in providing reference and reader’s advisory services to the public; provide technical expertise related to the purchase, classification, cataloging, and discarding of collection development.

    Oversee maintenance, use, and security of assigned facilities; oversee department technology related to automated systems, databases and related hardware and software used by staff and customers; oversee and participate in the installation of software, system configuration and software and hardware troubleshooting.

    Evaluate operations and activities of assigned unit/section; implement improvements and modifications; prepare various reports on operations and activities; plan and forecast future technology needs and improvements to enhance department services and activities.

    Coordinate assigned unit/section activities with other City divisions or departments.

    Develop, plan, coordinate and implement special events.

    Oversee planning and conducting of emergency drills, oversee safety of facilities, ensure off-site excursions meet safety and city liability requirements.

    Coordinate the use and scheduling of facilities by other agencies and private individuals; work with other city departments and divisions to ensure proper maintenance and safety of facilities to assigned program areas.

    Determine and plan for part-time and seasonal hiring and volunteer needs; assist in recruiting, hiring, and training.

    Assist in recruiting and overseeing volunteer services associated with facility operation; develop a comprehensive volunteer program.

    Assist in the preparation of short and long term business and strategic plans as they relate to assigned activities.

    Answer questions and provide information to the public; investigate complaints and recommend corrective action as necessary to resolve complaints.

    Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other City employees and the public using principles of good customer service.

    Perform related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

    Principles and practices of community recreation/library programming and facility management.

    Principles and practices of library science, including application and use of information technology systems.

    Public library service development and policies and procedures.

    Principles and practices of collection development, circulation, programming information and technical services.

    Principles of supervision, training and performance evaluations.

    Principles of budget monitoring, cash control and related accounting practices.

    Principles and practices of safety management.

    Pertinent local, State and Federal laws, ordinances and rules.

Ability to:

    Organize, implement and direct assigned recreation and/or library programs and operations.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

Experience:

    Three years of increasingly responsible professional experience in recreation or library operations and/or programming, including one year of lead responsibility.

AND

Training:

    A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

License or Certificate:

    Possession of a valid California driver’s license by date of appointment.

    Possession of First Aid and CPR Certificates as issued by the American Red Cross within six months of hire.

POSITION DUTIES:

Basic Function

West Hills College Coalinga is looking for a grant funded, full-time, temporary Librarian. The Librarian will plan, coordinate and promote digital and traditional library services as well as applies new informational reference service technologies to support the research for students, faculty and staff.

This position will report to the Vice President of Educational Services who reports to the President of WHC Coalinga.

Representative Duties and Responsibilities

    Assume primary faculty responsibilities such as participate in faculty department and college committees, assist in grant budget preparation, participate in staff development activities, and perform other job-related duties as assigned which may require traveling among District's various sites as needed.

    Commit to professional excellence by remaining current in the assigned area and participating in professional development programs.

    Apply technology to solve problems in library resource development and increase student and staff access to information resources.

    Maintain awareness of technological developments and apprise staff and faculty of potentially relevant applications.

    Evaluate and maintain bibliographic, circulation and other related databases.

    Develop cooperative relationships with college departments and faculty in promoting use of library services.

    Establish and maintain an ongoing outreach effort toward local public libraries as well as other community agencies, organizations and individuals.

    Assist in the selection and acquisition of all library material; perform professional duties required to maintain and enhance library collection.

    Participate in curriculum design and evaluation, program review and other departmental activities including accreditation.

    Assume expected faculty responsibilities such as participating in faculty, department and college committees, hold regular office hours, assist in budget preparation, participate in staff development activities and perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Desirable Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Abilities

    Two years post MLS experience as a librarian, preferably in public service at an institution of higher education, or in a large school district.

    Experience in multimedia technology as a means of information delivery.

    Incorporate the use of technology in performing instructional and non-instructional duties including distance education technologies, on-line class delivery, computerized presentations, and Microsoft Office Suite.

    Knowledge of ExLibris Library Systems Platform or comparable web-based library management/catalog system.

    Ability to communicate clearly with students and staff, both orally and in writing.

    Demonstrated commitment to professional growth and development through memberships in regional, state, and national organizations or other activities appropriate to the discipline or assignment.

Education and Experience
