Position Definition

Examples of Duties/Essential Functions


Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Minimum Qualification-Education/Experience


EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING 

Two (2) years of library experience in a technical or paraprofessional capacity, preferably in an academic library.  

EDUCATION/LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE 

Possession of an Associate degree from an accredited college, with major emphasis in library technology preferred but not required, or the equivalent.

DEFINITION:

Under general supervision, performs a variety of more complex paraprofessional library support services; provides direct service and assistance to staff and students; provides technical and functional direction to assigned Library Technicians.

Receives general supervision from the Dean, Learning and Library Resources.  Exercises technical and functional direction and provides training to assigned staff.

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS:

This is the advanced journey-level classification within the Library Technician series that is responsible for circulation and customer service tasks, including resolving customer issues, interpreting library policies, and cash reconciliation.  Incumbents may assist patrons at public desks, such as the circulation desk and throughout the library. Incumbents serve as lead for circulation activities for designated shifts and assists with scheduling and training less experienced staff in circulation procedures.  This class is distinguished from the other levels in the class series in that it performs the most complex library support services requiring additional knowledge, skill, and training.

Essential Duties/Major Responsibilities:

1. Assist with overseeing, providing direction to, and scheduling other library staff to provide adequate coverage of the circulation duties; trains clerical staff and student workers in the completion of work assignments; assists in the recruitment and selection of student workers and staff, and provides recommendations for hiring.

2. Prepares daily and weekly schedule assignments for staff; provides input and documentation for performance evaluations to the Dean, Library and Learning Resources.

3. Assists students and staff at the circulation desk and directs library patrons to appropriate locations and/or staff; responds to the most complex complaints, inquiries, questions, and requests for information; interprets and applies regulations, policies, procedures, systems, rules, and precedents in response to inquiries and complaints from patrons; answers calls, resolves questions and problem, or directs callers to appropriate District staff as necessary. 

4. Identifies damaged materials; uses discretion in resolving fee and fine disputes; collects and records fees and fines; clears library holds on student accounts. .

5. Receives and discharges library materials, registers library patrons, and makes changes to accounts as needed.

6. Maintains accurate and detailed library records including copy cataloging, verifies accuracy of information, researches discrepancies, and records information. 

7. Deletes discarded titles from automated database as appropriate. 

8. Identify and suggest solutions to resolve problems in cataloging process; seek advice and direction as appropriate.

9. Assesses damaged books and resource materials; cleans, mends, covers, and repairs damaged books and other instructional materials; assists in the discarding of old books and materials according to established policies and procedures; deletes discarded titles from automated catalog as appropriate.

10. Searches shelves for overdue and lost items.

11. Prepares circulating materials for use.

12. Receives, logs, labels, and prepares materials for display and use by patrons; mounts changing displays in cases throughout the library.

13. Copy-catalogs and processes continuations. Receives and checks books against invoice to verify for accuracy. Checks for duplicates and verifies that all continuations follow succession. 

14. Performs a wide variety of routine clerical duties to support operations, including filing, preparing records and basic reports, developing signage and flyers, and ordering and maintaining office and other related supplies. 

15. Maintains accurate and detailed records, verifies accuracy of information, researches discrepancies, and records information. 

16. Assist patrons with operating library equipment including microfilm reader printer, copier, and scanner.  

17. Maintains copier supplies.

18. Receives and sorts delivered or returned library materials and a variety of correspondence.

Job Summary


Santa Rosa Junior College (SRJC) is seeking an Electronic Resources librarian to join our supportive, collaborative, and results-driven electronic and technical services team. This position offers the successful candidate considerable creative, innovative, and challenging opportunities to lead and advance library integrations across multiple platforms, while contributing to an inclusive and welcoming digital library environment.

This is a full-time, tenure-track/continuing contract position in the Library & Information Resources Department at Santa Rosa Junior College, beginning Fall Semester, August 2022. Appointments are contingent upon funding and Board approval.

Job Duties:


  • Lead digital integrations and solutions that support and extend the reach of library systems and applications, including, but not limited to, Alma Apps and APIs, LTIs, SSO applications, EZproxy, SIS integrations and more
  • Apply creative digital solutions, including the use of programming and scripting languages, to enhance the access and delivery of digital resources and services
  • Extend and support technical frameworks for deep integrations of library resources and systems with student-facing learning and web platforms such as Drupal, Canvas and Springshare
  • As part of a team, provide leadership on diversity, equity and inclusion as they relate to library technologies and digital access
  • Provide leadership for identifying, assessing and onboarding innovative technologies in a team environment and serve as primary interface with campus Information Technology (IT) department on library initiatives.

JOB SUMMARY


We are seeking a qualified, service-oriented, innovative, and collaborative colleague to join us and fill this vital role.  The Library Instruction Specialist is a full-time, tenure-track position with the rank of Senior Assistant Librarian that reports to the library’s dean as do all CSUSB library faculty.

The successful candidate will be the  point person for our already existing, full-featured instruction program, a foundation upon which you will build in collaboration with the team of librarians who provide instruction.

Monitor current trends in academic library instruction and information literacy and make recommendations to the team for moving our instruction program forward with refinements or new approaches to existing instruction services, as well as recommendations for devising, planning, and implementing new ones.

Primary responsibility for organizing and scheduling library instruction on our main campus.  Support library instruction at our satellite campus in Palm Desert as needed.

TYPICAL ACTIVITIES

  • Serves as the library representative to the Teaching Academy and other campus entities related to instruction.
  • Stays up to date with current trends in library instruction and information literacy.
  • Monitors the physical condition of two classrooms in the library and the level of supplies.

Responsibilities

As a library faculty member in the Gerth Archives & Special Collections Department, the incumbent will work in a highly collaborative manner with other CSUDH Gerth Archives and Library personnel to support digital projects through their entire cycle, including the preparation of digital materials (photographs, text, etc.), the creation of metadata using  CONTENTdm, and generation of outreach materials such as finding aids, libguides, digital exhibitions, and other outreach activities. The Digital Collections Archivist will work to enhance the CSUDH community's access to digital collections by actively working with Archives faculty and staff on events and publicity/social media activities to promote their access and use.

  • Work with the Gerth Archives faculty and professional staff to plan, prioritize, and implement projects to digitize archival materials.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 
Primary focus will be in the following areas: reference desk duties, selection and organization of electronic resources, maintenance of Library Services Platform, and instruction. 
 
1. Administer, troubleshoot and maintain the Library Services Platform (LSP), currently Ex Libris. Serve as liaison to LSP vendor (Alma/Primo), coordinate with ITSS, and manage new releases. 
 
2. Configure and customize the LSP’s internal systems (Alma) and user interface (Primo) to improve user experience including tools, reports, modules, patron receipts and letters. Recommend and implement new features for the LSP.
