Position:


In support of collection management, the University Library at California State University, Northridge seeks a service-oriented individual to assist in managing collections, especially electronic resources such as streaming media, in a busy university environment. The successful candidate works with colleagues in both CAMS and Research, Instruction and Outreach Services (RIOS) departments to analyze collections needs on campus and adds these items into the Library’s holdings; works to meet the metadata, accessibility, and management challenges posed by these resources; and consults with teaching faculty regarding availability, licensing, and copyright, and the integration of electronic resources into course modules and library guides.

The Collection Management Librarian develops and creates discipline-specific or general digital learning objects, including LibGuides, videos, and/or tutorials in support of diverse student research needs. In collaboration with other library faculty, performs assessment about the usage, satisfaction with, and impact on student learning of streaming media and other related resources and services with the purpose of informing future acquisitions. Additionally, the Collection Management Librarian, depending on educational background and experience, participates in liaison and collection development activities for one or more disciplines, based on the needs of the Library. Participates in library instructions, and in-person and remote reference/research assistance in a dynamic learning environment.

This is a 12-month, full-time, tenure-track faculty position at the Senior Assistant Librarian or Associate Librarian level, with attendant expectations for professional competence, service, and scholarship. Some evening and weekend work is required. The successful candidate will be held to the standards and requirements of the college and department in which they are housed for recommending tenure and promotion.

Leads development and implementation of an education program for library employees on issues of scholarly communication. Advises on how librarians in all subject areas can educate and communicate with their constituencies around issues of scholarly communication.

Develops and implements a program to increase awareness among faculty, researchers, and students about scholarly communication issues in the digital environment, alternative publishing models, public-access requirements for grant-funded projects, Open Access, and Open Education.

Promotes the use of the campus’s institutional repository/faculty profile system: Sac State Scholars. Creates and maintains support documentation, policies, and workflow guidelines for the institutional repository. Selects content to include in the repository that is representative of Sac State and showcases the excellence of the university, including high-level undergraduate work.

Develops and maintains a broad network of partners, e.g., the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL), Information Resources and Technology (IRT), the Office of Research, Innovation, and Economic Development (ORIED), Division of Inclusive Excellence, students, faculty and staff, California State University (CSU) system-wide offices, and the scholarly community to inform, support, and advance the library’s scholarly communication programs and goals.

Stays informed of, and shares with the library and university staff and faculty, national and international trends and developments in scholarly communication, including legislation, changes in intellectual property rights, commercial and academic/research scholarly publishing, and information technologies that affect access and preservation of scholarly information.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Position Summary

Assists with troubleshooting of check-in and claiming tasks, initiates followup action, and updates records as required when responses are received. Job Description

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


35% Technical Services: 


Performs original cataloging, copy cataloging, and metadata creation tasks. Assigns accurate subject headings and authority records following professional practices and industry standards for the development of metadata and bibliographic information. Schedules website crawls and creates, assigns, and enriches descriptive metadata for webpages and social media accounts captured by the Government Publications Section to improve searchability and improve discovery of these resources. Assists the Senior Librarian with resolving complex issues with cataloging and metadata creation.

35% Outreach and Instruction:


Provides virtual and in-person instruction for other state agencies and the general public, teaching classes on searching and navigating the California State Library’s collections of digital government documents. POSITION HIGHLIGHTS:

Butte College Library is recruiting two Library Technician Senior positions.

The Library Technician Seniors are responsible for the technical, service, and support areas of the Library. Working closely with Butte College Librarians, responsibilities split between the two positions include ordering, cataloging, and processing of all library materials using the Library Services Platform. These positions manage all ordering for the library, including subscriptions, supplies and individual staff requests, working with outside vendors, preparing invoices for payments, and receiving shipments. Other duties include gathering and reporting statistics related to library usage; assisting faculty, staff, and students in the use of our LSP; providing back-up to Circulation; assisting in technical support of computer hardware and software; processing incoming and outgoing interlibrary loans via OCLC WorldShare, overseeing databases, interlibrary loan and periodicals/newspapers, and serving on District Committees when needed.

About the Position:

The Outreach & Engagement Librarian works with the CSU Channel Islands campus to strategically plan and coordinate the Library’s efforts in designing and implementing effective and innovative library programming to engage the campus community in a collaborative and equitable fashion. The Outreach & Engagement Librarian works closely with librarians, staff, faculty, and university partners to lead and develop Library initiatives that support student success, equity, recruitment, and retention for all students, including historically underrepresented student populations.

At the heart of this position is a chance to harness evidence from a growing body of retention and library research that suggests that academic libraries have a positive impact on student outcomes. Reporting to the Head of Instruction, Engagement, & Assessment, this position supports student-centered learning, focusing on coordinating the Library’s efforts to build library research skills and engage students with the tools of scholarship. The Outreach & Engagement Librarian builds relationships internally with Library faculty and staff, as well as with both academic and non-academic units across campus to raise awareness about the various ways that the library can serve as an essential partner in facilitating the success of our diverse body of undergraduate students.

Minimum Degree Requirements:

Master of Library Science (or equivalent) from an ALA accredited program.
