POSITION HIGHLIGHTS:

Butte College Library is recruiting two Library Technician Senior positions.

The Library Technician Seniors are responsible for the technical, service, and support areas of the Library. Working closely with Butte College Librarians, responsibilities split between the two positions include ordering, cataloging, and processing of all library materials using the Library Services Platform. These positions manage all ordering for the library, including subscriptions, supplies and individual staff requests, working with outside vendors, preparing invoices for payments, and receiving shipments. Other duties include gathering and reporting statistics related to library usage; assisting faculty, staff, and students in the use of our LSP; providing back-up to Circulation; assisting in technical support of computer hardware and software; processing incoming and outgoing interlibrary loans via OCLC WorldShare, overseeing databases, interlibrary loan and periodicals/newspapers, and serving on District Committees when needed.

These are senior level positions working under limited direct supervision. Candidates should have excellent organization skills and a thorough working knowledge of cataloging, Library Service Platforms, and Library workflow.  

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

*1. Evaluates, identifies, implements and organizes library information sources using specialized library management software and related resources to include daily area oversight of the library’s computerized integrated library management system.

*2. Organizes area work methods and procedures for library management system, including but not limited to, establishing and maintaining system use procedures, identifying system errors or problems, providing basic technical troubleshooting of system and/or referring the problem to the appropriate area(s) for assistance.

*3. Utilizes and maintains Library Services section of the District’s help desk software and database to report and monitor library’s technical work requests to repair, install, service and/or configure network user hardware of software needs.

*4. Receives vendor quotes or bides; places orders and/or requests for library materials, i.e., books, journals and supplies through written purchase orders or the vendor’s online order interface; uses the vendor’s online order management interface to monitor status of orders; contacts vendors regarding reports or problem statuses, receives and verifies vendor’s shipments; prepares invoices for payment.

*5. Maintains bibliographic database, cataloging newly accessioned materials using computer software applications and other specialized databases, including the OCLC National database of Machine Readable Catalog library records and Internet resources.

*6. Verifies bibliographic information and adapts records to meet local and District professional standards; assigns Library of Congress call numbers to materials as necessary.

*7. Performs cataloging of newly acquired library materials and maintains database of materials for inventory control purposes.

*8. Assists in recommending and developing new policies and procedures that improve assigned area’s overall efficiency and quality of service.

*9. Assists in the development of the library budget and grant proposals; prepares budget reports and projections as requested and assists the administrator in other related budgetary matters.

*10. Utilizes the library automation system’s report management capabilities to develop area reports and statistics; compiles and prepares for presentation library resources and database usage statistics; assists the administrator with the preparation of various annual and/or mandatory State or national reports, such as IPEDS, accreditation, etc.

*11. Performs special technical level assignments and projects at the direction of the administrator, to include special library programs, funding issues, material research, technical processing services, and training of Library Technician and student employees in specialized tasks assigned.

*12. Performs journey-level library technician work as assigned, including circulation and reference duties, oversees the shelving and processing of materials, responds to library specific questions and needs of faculty, staff and students.

*13. Assists patrons and library staff in using integrated library management system and related informational resources and equipment, including but not limited to, providing general orientation to new users, specialized groups or classes.

14. Provides administrative support of the Director as requested.

15. May serve on a variety of District committees as requested.

16. May perform other duties as assigned.
