DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION

Job Description: Under the supervision of a Principal Librarian and under the lead of the Senior Librarian for Federal Documents, the incumbent serves as the lead staff member for the Patent and Trademark Resource Center (PTRC), plans and participates in outreach activities for the PTRC and Government Publications Section (GPS), performs support activities for the State Library's Federal depository operations, assists with Federal regional depository activities, and provides reference service to State Library patrons. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following: 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


35% PTRC Program Management and Outreach:

Serves as the lead staff member managing the day-to-day activities of the Patent and Trademark Resource Center. Communicates with USPTO staff, attends PTRC meetings, attends and conducts training for staff and the public, and assists members of the public with their PTRC-related inquiries and research. Additionally, this position is responsible for planning and conducting outreach activities to promote and grow the PTRC program and Government Publications as a whole.

35% FDLP Support, Cataloguing, and Collection Management:

Conducts support activities for the Federal Depository Library program, including but not limited to cataloging, quality control checks on Federal bibliographic records, offer and disposal list processing, technical troubleshooting, and helping to rectify Superintendent of Documents (SuDoc) classification conflicts. Catalogs library materials from other sections of the State Library as needed.

20% Reference: 

Provides reference services to state employees, members of the public, and other libraries. This service involves inperson, telephone, e-mail, and other online transactions.

5% Digitization: 

Assists with technical aspects of the California state and local depository collections and programs.

5% Committees and Special Projects: 

Participates in State Library study groups and serves on State Library committees. Provides research and reports as requested by the librarian supervisor, the Chief of State Library Services, Assistant Chief, and the State Librarian.
