Librarian

Grant Funded, Temporary Assignment (Non-Tenure Track)

Funding Ends June 30, 2022

POSITION DUTIES:

Basic Function

West Hills College Coalinga is looking for a grant funded, full-time, temporary Librarian. The Librarian will plan, coordinate and promote digital and traditional library services as well as applies new informational reference service technologies to support the research for students, faculty and staff.

This position will report to the Vice President of Educational Services who reports to the President of WHC Coalinga.

Representative Duties and Responsibilities

    Assume primary faculty responsibilities such as participate in faculty department and college committees, assist in grant budget preparation, participate in staff development activities, and perform other job-related duties as assigned which may require traveling among District's various sites as needed.

    Commit to professional excellence by remaining current in the assigned area and participating in professional development programs.

    Apply technology to solve problems in library resource development and increase student and staff access to information resources.

    Maintain awareness of technological developments and apprise staff and faculty of potentially relevant applications.

    Evaluate and maintain bibliographic, circulation and other related databases.

    Develop cooperative relationships with college departments and faculty in promoting use of library services.

    Establish and maintain an ongoing outreach effort toward local public libraries as well as other community agencies, organizations and individuals.

    Assist in the selection and acquisition of all library material; perform professional duties required to maintain and enhance library collection.

    Participate in curriculum design and evaluation, program review and other departmental activities including accreditation.

    Assume expected faculty responsibilities such as participating in faculty, department and college committees, hold regular office hours, assist in budget preparation, participate in staff development activities and perform other job-related duties as assigned.

    Work collaboratively with librarians, faculty, staff, and students on information literacy instruction, reference, assessment, library services and collection development activities.

    Bilingual preferred but not required.

    Perform related duties as assigned.

Desirable Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Abilities

    Two years post MLS experience as a librarian, preferably in public service at an institution of higher education, or in a large school district.

    Experience in multimedia technology as a means of information delivery.

    Incorporate the use of technology in performing instructional and non-instructional duties including distance education technologies, on-line class delivery, computerized presentations, and Microsoft Office Suite.

    Knowledge of ExLibris Library Systems Platform or comparable web-based library management/catalog system.

    Ability to communicate clearly with students and staff, both orally and in writing.

    Demonstrated commitment to professional growth and development through memberships in regional, state, and national organizations or other activities appropriate to the discipline or assignment.

QUALIFICATION:

Education and Experience

Demonstrated sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural, ethnic, and disability background of community college students.

Master's in library science, library and information science OR the equivalent.
