Initial salary is commensurate with qualifications and
experience. This is a full-time, 12-month tenure-track appointment at the rank
of Senior Assistant Librarian.
Duties:
The California State University, Los Angeles University Library seeks an innovative, collaborative and user-centered librarian to provide leadership, oversight and strategic vision to shape the future of the University Library Special Collections and Archives at Cal State LA. This position will supervise three full-time staff members, interns, and volunteers and provide oversight of several student assistants. In consultation with library administration, the position will establish goals, objectives, and priorities for the unit.
The Special Collections & Archives Librarian will collaborate with librarians and teaching faculty to develop new pedagogical approaches for teaching with special collections and archives materials including assessing the usage and impact of special collections and archives services on student success. The successful candidate will initially direct a robust program of exhibits and events that highlight and promote Cal State LA’s special collections, archives and digital collections. In collaboration with the Dean of the Library, Library administrators and University Advancement, identifies collection development opportunities and participates in outreach to prospective donors and identifies sources of external funding. The successful candidate will build the collections to support the University’s curriculum and manage the organization and preservation of materials in all collections and formats.

Minimum Qualifications:
1) An earned MLS/MLIS or equivalent from an ALA-accredited
institution is required at the time of application.
2) Evidence of a minimum two years’ experience working in a library or archival setting.
3) Demonstrated experience with archival best practices, standards and procedures for print and digital collections.
4) Demonstrated experience providing instruction or research consultation services to students, faculty, and other users.
5) Demonstrated experience actively engaging with a diverse group of donors and soliciting donations in a library setting.
6) Evidence of experience engaging in research, scholarly activity, professional development and service.
