Summary
Under general direction of the Head of Blaisdell Medical Library, responsible for the day-to-day management of all circulation, document delivery and interlibrary loan operations at the Blaisdell Medical Library (BML) in Sacramento, ensuring access to print and non-print collections. Engage in short- and long-range planning. Supervise and train support staff.

Responsible for the interpretation and implementation of policies and procedures affecting circulation, document delivery and interlibrary loan operations. This library primarily serves the informational needs of working health care professionals and health care graduate students. 

Minimum Qualifications
Experience in an academic or other similar library setting including understanding of priority expectations in a public service setting and the interaction between public and technical services units, essential.
Interpersonal skills to communicate with a variety of people, including faculty, staff, students and general public; and to arbitrate conflicts involving policies and procedures to a mutually satisfactory conclusion.
Organizational skills to work independently, establish priorities, and handle fluctuating workloads for self and others.
Supervisory skills to select, train, motivate, counsel/discipline and evaluate employees
Analytical skills to analyze policies and procedures, to determine staffing, equipment and space needs, to interpret data, and prepare reports.
Reasoning skills using creativity in problem solving to apply sound, independent logic and judgment, and to extrapolate from one situation to another to resolve problems and to make appropriate decisions.
Writing, editing and proofreading skills to prepare correspondence, reports, performance appraisals, position descriptions, manuals and other communications. 

Preferred Qualifications
Experience in a health sciences or other medical library.
Skill to perceive, understand and implement goals, policies and procedures of the department and to work collaboratively with others to meet them.
Skill to communicate effectively and work under pressure created by deadlines; flexibility to adjust to rapidly fluctuating priorities and to adjust own workflow to assist in a back-up capacity during staffing shortages and periods of heavy workload.
Knowledge and experience working with a networked operating system. Experience with Microsoft® Office software applications.
Skills to operate integrated library systems, online catalogs and other necessary databases and equipment and skill to perform and interpret searches using various online catalogs, databases and search engines to assist library patrons with their information needs.
Skills to work with, test, train on, and troubleshoot computer equipment and software, and standard office equipment.
