About the Position:
The Sacramento Public Library is seeking candidates who have excellent customer service and teamwork skills, and ability to work in a fast paced environment while simultaneously paying attention to detail and delivering accurate work .
The Library Services Assistant performs a variety of paraprofessional, clerical and technical library work, such as processing and circulating library materials, assisting library customers, and responding to routine informational requests.
The position requires the ability to lift bins and boxes of library materials weighing up to 50 pounds; push or pull book carts weighing up to 200 pounds; bend and reach.
This announcement will be used to create an eligibility list that will be used to staff
current and future career Library Services Assistant openings that occur in the next 12 months.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED;
Six months in a customer service setting desirable.
Work Schedule:
Work schedules are subject to change based on the needs of the Library; candidates must be able to work evenings and weekends.

The Sacramento Public Library Authority is the fourth largest library system in California serving the public in the City and County of Sacramento and five surrounding cities. The Sacramento Public Library operates 28 libraries, with a central library in downtown Sacramento. The Library has over 300 staff members, a collection of 2 million volumes, and a budget of $35,000,000. More than 600,000 residents have library cards and over 7 million items are circulated annually.

Selection Process:
The selection process will include a review of the application, cover letter and responses to the supplemental questions. The application process is also part of the examination process. All submitted application materials will be reviewed and screened based on the necessary employment standards for the position. Meeting these qualifications does not necessarily guarantee an interview.
The most qualified candidates will be invited to test for this position
1) Candidates must successfully pass a computer skills test consisting of 4 parts:
a. Customer service skills
b. Business skills
c. Library skills
d. Data Entry skills
2) Candidates who successfully pass the computer based skills test may be invited to interview at a subsequent date.

Eligibility List:
Candidates who successfully pass the computer skills test and interview process will be placed on the eligibility list for up to 12 months.
Candidates on the eligibility list may be considered for current/future career Library Services Assistant openings.
Candidates on the eligibility list may work as temporary On Call Library Services Assistants until career openings are available.
