THE LIBRARIES:
The CCA Libraries include the Meyer Library on the Oakland campus, and the Simpson and Materials Libraries on the San Francisco Campus. The Libraries offer a comprehensive and expanding collection of resources primarily focusing on art and design and including 87,000 volumes representing 63,000 titles, over 200 print periodical subscriptions, nearly 2,000 full-text online periodicals, over 1,000 audiovisual titles, and nearly 10,000 digital resources in the institutional repository. Special collections include the CCA/C Archives, Small Press Traffic Collection, New Materials Library, Hamaguchi Print Collection, and the Artist’s Book Collection. The Libraries support and enhance the CCA community through their extensive collections, dual-campus services and an ever-expanding network of digital resources. The Libraries continuously evolve, deploying a visionary and innovative approach to technologies, services, and facilities that reaches beyond campus boundaries in order to support new creative programs and educational delivery models.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The director will provide leadership, management, and expertise to fulfill the mandate of the CCA Libraries. The director will work in concert with the library staff, faculty, and academic and administrative leaders to ensure that the library resources are used to create the greatest benefit for the CCA community. The director is responsible for the strategic vision and planning of the libraries to ensure the library remains innovative in its provision of resources, systems, and services that best support CCA’s existing and expanding academic programs. While reporting to the CIO, the director maintains a close relationship with faculty and Academic Affairs, collaborating closely with technical and academic staff to craft and implement a shared vision for faculty development and teaching excellence. The director should serve as an advocate for the Libraries and lead discussions about redesigning the Libraries to better serve CCA as a hub for information literacy, instructional technology, faculty development, student engagement, and high impact teaching and learning practices. The director actively leads the library staff, engaging them in the process and unifying the vision and services across the campuses. The director is enthusiastic, innovative and passionate about the role of libraries in a flexible, media-rich, studio-based, hands-on art and design environment.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

55% Library Leadership & Management
● Directs the operation of the libraries to include the development, recommendation, implementation and evaluation of policies and procedures.
● Leads and develops library staff, bringing together the libraries with a unified and articulated vision.
● Engages with librarians and faculty in the development of the physical and digital collections to insure they are relevant to the instructional and research needs of the college’s faculty and students.
● Oversees associate director(s) to direct the work of the whole library staff of approximately 10 members as well as student workers.
● Strategically manages the library budget, plans and advocates for current and future resource needs.
● Partners with the CIO and Educational Technology to evolve and grow the library technical infrastructure and digital media services in support of teaching, learning, and scholarship.
40% Strategy & Communications
● Partners with the librarians, faculty, provost, and CIO to develop the library’s strategic vision and plans in correlation with college-wide goals and objectives.
● Champions the design and implementation efforts that emerge from planning to bring the strategic vision to fruition.
● Partners with the associate provost to create and foster ongoing library governance.
● Represents the library services to campus administrators, faculty, staff, students, alumni and the professional library community.
● Develops relationships throughout the CCA community to ensure the library is positioned to provide information and resources to the broad range of users throughout the disciplines.
● Builds relationships and develops strategic opportunities with other libraries, cultural institutions, and educational institutions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
MLS degree from an ALA accredited graduate program. Extensive experience in library administration and leadership including development and management of budgets and supervision of staff; superb written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, and proven ability to interact effectively with all levels of the campus and library community; and, strong public service orientation required. Must possess demonstrated excellence in cultivating staff rapport and promoting a positive and productive management style. Should have a demonstrated ability to foster an open, equitable, and diverse academic and/or administrative environment. Must be highly organized and have demonstrated innovative leadership capabilities, ability to problem solve and facilitate meetings, experience delegating and working collectively to achieve positive results, and an ability to perform multiple tasks in an effective manner. Creativity, flexibility, a “start-up” energy, comfort and experience with data and institutional research, and familiarity with and ability to apply technological innovations to the libraries are essential. Knowledge of electronic information tools and library automation systems, including digital resources required. Prefer subject background in the arts and demonstrated knowledge of art resources.
