The City of Mission Viejo is accepting applications from qualified applicants for the position of On-Call Librarian. The eligibility list established for this position may be used to fill future full-time, part-time or temporary On-Call Librarian vacancies.

The City of Mission Viejo Library is open to the public Monday through Thursday, 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.; Friday, 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.; Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; and Sunday, 12:00 noon to 5:00 p.m. Staff may be assigned to work mornings, evenings and weekends. On-Call Librarians are considered at-will Hourly, Seasonal, and/or Temporary variable hour employees, and are not a part of the competitive service, nor are they eligible to receive benefits. Incumbents will work a flexible schedule, with an average of 8 to 15 hours per week, with increased scheduling during peak workload periods, but will remain less than 1,000 hours during the assignment through the fiscal year starting July 1st and ending June 30th.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE
Technology Function:
·         Assist patrons with using public computers, printers, copiers and scanner, saving and attaching documents, and the library’s Wi-Fi service; and
·         Assist patrons with using the library’s downloadable book services.
Adult and Children’s Reference Function:
·         Participate in all aspects of reference services including searching the library’s online catalog, ILS system, electronic databases, and web-based searches, demonstrate these resources to patrons, and provide reader’s advisory services to all ages; and
·         Keep abreast of current practices in the field through professional reading and research.

QUALIFICATIONS
Two (2) years of related experience.  Equivalent to a Master’s degree in Library Science or related degree.  Experience is not substituted for the Master’s degree. 

LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE
Must possess and maintain a valid California class C driver’s license and have a satisfactory driving record.
