DESCRIPTION:
The County of Yolo is recruiting to fill one regular, full-time position in the class of Library Branch Supervisor (Non-MLS) at the Mary L. Stephens Davis Branch of the Yolo County Library.

Definition
Under the direction of a Library Branch Manager, oversees the day-to-day operation of a small branch library; provides customer service and assistance to patrons; oversees building maintenance, staff and volunteer supervision, program coordination and the development of the library branch collection; and performs other related duties as required.

Distinguishing Characteristics
This classification is responsible for managing all the day-to-day operations of a small branch library.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The following duties are typical of those performed by the incumbents in these classifications; however, other duties may also be required.
Manages the operations of a small branch library, ensuring that patrons receive the best library service and that the branch is functioning efficiently;
Provides and directs readers' advisory, reference, hold requests, patron registration, check-in and check-out services and assistance to all library patrons of all ages; processes fines and other patron charges;
Liaisons with the local community, Friends and local school districts and develops partnerships; cultivates and maintains good relationships; ensures that community groups are kept informed of library programs and services; coordinates branch library publicity;
Supervises assigned branch staff (Library Assistants and extra help) and volunteers; recruits volunteers; trains; arranges schedules; monitors workflow; conducts performance evaluations; models expected behaviors;
Serves as a resource to branch staff on library policy, procedures and practices;
Provides high level customer service; responds to patron problems and mediates customer concerns;
Works with Library Program Manager to create and maintain attractive children's, teen and adult areas stocked with appropriate material;
Ensures the branch collection is balanced and current; weeds; selects and orders new books; conducts shelf pull, grid, and collection rotation;
Schedules special programs at the library; participates at appropriate community functions; Supports library programs, promotions, tours, and booktalks by contributing ideas and feedback;
Assists patrons with internet use, reference sources, indexes, etc.;
Processes material in and out of the branch to fill holds and rotate collections; packs and unpacks delivery material; unpacks mail and supplies; checks in library materials returned to the branch;
Ensures that the building is adequately maintained; schedules needed maintenance or improvements; ensures that the building is opened and closed on time;
Plans and conducts regular branch staff meetings, if appropriate;
Keeps abreast of library developments by attending workshops and educational programs and reading periodicals and specialized literature;
Identifies opportunities for improvement in the current policies, procedures and systems; offers recommendations for change; and
Serves as a positive and motivational team leader as well as a positive and effective member of a peer group.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:
Education: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university; AND
Experience: Three (3) years increasingly responsible experience in a public or private library.

License

Verification of Education
Acceptable forms of educational documentation are official or unofficial transcripts that list the student's name, institution name, field of study and date the degree was awarded.

For recent graduates who have not received proof of their degree yet, a letter from the registrar's office stating that all requirements for graduation have been met and listing the field of study will be sufficient proof of graduation.

The County of Yolo is recruiting to fill one position in the class of Library Assistant I/II at the Mary L. Stephens Davis Branch of the Yolo County Library. The candidate selected for this position would be required to work one evening per week (12:00-9:00 pm) and an alternating weekend day shift (Friday, Saturday, and/or Sunday).  The eligible list that is established as a result of this recruitment will also be used to fill additional regular and/or extra-help vacancies as they become available.  

In addition to the duties defined in the "Essential Functions" section of this bulletin, an example of typical responsibilities that are also assigned to incumbents in these positions are as follows:

Assists with the maintenance of the collection, including creating and editing item records and de-accession.
