Job Description

LACC is seeking applicants for a full-time, 10-month, tenure track faculty Librarian position to begin in the Fall 2021 semester. The assignment may include working on campus, online, offsite, and/or evening and weekends.  This position will be part of a collaborative team that provides information resources and reference assistance to students, faculty, and staff.  The ideal candidate will be tech-savvy and current in the discipline with a passion for information literacy and with a demonstrated commitment to working with a diverse student population.

MINIMUM/REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Master’s in library science, library and information science;

OR the equivalent, AND

A demonstrated sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college faculty, staff, and students.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to develop and teach information competency classes and workshops.
  •  A strong sense of public service and the ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, and external organizations.
  • Commitment and ability to work effectively with diverse populations in a collegiate environment.
  • Experience in providing reference services in an academic environment.
  • Experience with social media outreach and website maintenance.
  • Experience with emerging digital and instructional technologies along with developing library trends and technologies.
  • Knowledge or and/or experience with e-learning, instructional technology and learning management systems, such as Canvas.
  • Some experience in acquisitions, cataloging, archives, and researching new resources.
  • Knowledge of and/or experience with accessibility and accommodations.
  • Knowledge of and/or experience with student and program learning outcomes and assessment.
  • Knowledge of and/or experience with Library Service Platforms, such as Alma/Primo/ExLibris.
  • Proficiency in productivity software such as Microsoft Office.
  • Demonstrated proficiency using online databases and electronic resources.
  • An interest and willingness to participate in department and college committees, college governance, curriculum, program review and accreditation, or other campus community activities.
  • A commitment to professional growth.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

(Duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following):

  • Provide reference service to students, faculty and staff (in-person and online).
  • Conduct library instruction sessions in collaboration with faculty.
  • Develop and coordinate research skills workshops.
  • Actively promote the use of library resources and services to students, faculty and staff, including social media and website updates.
  • Plan and execute outreach programs to various teaching disciplines, the College’s Pathways and to the community.
  • Implementation of inclusive learning environments and curricula that welcome and engage all students, incorporating instructional technologies to improve student learning.
  • Contribute to collection development activities, including selection and deselection and recommending online and print sources for purchase by the library.
  • Provide input in the selection of library’s electronic resources.
  • Design and produce curricular materials, research guides, information-literacy tutorials and other resources in print, web-based, and multimedia formats.
  • Actively participate in the development and assessment of learning outcomes, including analysis and the use of results to improve student learning and access to resources.
  • Assess and promote the use of emerging technologies for library services and operations.
  • Integrate information competency into courses and Pathways.
  • Collaborate with the department chair and librarians in administrative requirements such as program reviews, statistical recordkeeping, self-evaluation reports for accreditation, and accessibility documentation.
  • Serve as an active participant on campus committees.
  • Provide training and work directions to library staff and student workers.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic background of community college students, staff, and faculty.
  • Create an engaging, welcoming, and equitable learning environment.
  • Work collegially with members of the department, maintain professional conduct and ethics, and foster a professional working environment.
  • Perform other librarian duties as assigned.
  • Work schedule may include days, evenings and weekends; schedule may vary based upon student/library needs.

REMOTE LEARNING

Faculty may be required to conduct bibliographic instruction sessions or interact with students in a virtual learning environment using Canvas, Zoom, LibChat or other methods of remote learning.  Applicants with demonstrated certification in Blackboard, Canvas or Course Compass or other online modalities may be given preference.
