The Mabie Law Library at the University of California, Davis School of Law seeks an enthusiastic, flexible, and creative law librarian for the position of Research Law Librarian.

Research Law Librarians provide legal reference, research and instructional services to UC Davis School of Law faculty, staff, and students, as well as members of the public. In addition, Research Law Librarians prepare and maintain research guides and actively participate in the teaching of legal research courses and workshops throughout the year. Research Law Librarians may be assigned to an area of concentration or to projects that vary according to library needs and the Librarian's individual talents and interests. This position may also serve as a liaison to law school clinics and faculty members.

The Mabie Law Library is an integral part of the UC Davis School of Law, and provides services that support the teaching, research, and scholarship of its students and faculty. The Law Library’s collection and staff are housed in King Hall on the Davis campus. The Law Library has access to a wide variety of databases which are provided through its library licenses, campus, and UC-wide license agreements.

Responsibilities:
• Provides extensive legal research assistance to law students, faculty and other patrons;
• Serves as library liaison to faculty members and provides complex legal research assistance in support of faculty scholarship and teaching;
• Provides topical resource and research presentations to law school classes, clinic students, RAs, externs, Journal editors, etc. as needed;
• Assists with development and adaptation of new technologies and systems relevant to research services;
• Participates in the library’s marketing and communications efforts;
• Actively participates in student outreach programs;
• Contributes to the development, implementation and evaluation of reference and public services policies, procedures and publications;
• Reports to the Law Library Director who may assign additional functions as necessary;
• Initial work hours are in-person M-F 8am-5pm, with several reference desk shifts. Some evening and an occasional weekend shift may be required.

Salary, Benefits, and Work Hours:
This is a career position and the salary and benefits will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. UC professional librarians are academic appointees and are represented by an exclusive bargaining unit, University Council-American Federation of Teachers (UC AFT). QUALIFICATIONS

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

Basic Qualifications:
• JD from an ABA-accredited law school, or significant law library work experience;
• MLS or equivalent degree from an ALA-accredited library school, or current enrollment towards completion of such a degree, or equivalent experience in fields relevant to library services;
• Substantial knowledge of print-based and online legal research systems and resources, especially Lexis and Westlaw;
• Strong service orientation;
• Excellent oral and written communication skills;
• Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment;
• Interest or experience in teaching legal research preferred.
