SUMMARY:


Under the direction of the Vice President of Instruction, the Dean of LTR provides visionary leadership in support of learning and technology resources. The dean supervises assigned academic and classified personnel and coordinates learning and technology programs, resources, and budgets.

The LTR Dean oversees five major departments within the division.

  • Learning Assistance (including tutorial services)
  • Distance Education
  • Library Operations
  • Instructional Technology Services (technology maintenance and tech support) 
  • Website Support

The Dean works collaboratively with other campus departments to coordinate these various services.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:


Any combination equivalent to: Master's degree from an accredited institution plus five years of achievement in higher education management, supervision, or leadership, with emphasis in one or more of the areas to which the Dean position is assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 
  • Demonstrate a commitment to and support of Cuyamaca College's vision, mission, and values in the LTR Division’s programs and services and within the institution.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to and support of diversity, equity, inclusion, anti-racism, and accessibility in support of student success and retention.
  • Manage, plan, coordinate, and evaluate division programs in accordance with legal requirements, district policies, state guidelines, and sound instructional principles and practices.
  • Communicate statutes, college policies, procedures, and philosophies to assigned staff and to other college employees and students when appropriate.
  • Assist with hiring, evaluation, and retention of assigned faculty and staff according to statutes and Governing Board policy; plan and coordinate orientation and in-service education for professional development of program faculty and staff; assign certificated and classified staff to work areas, hours, and duties.
  • Facilitate the resolution of student, instructor, and staff conflicts and problems.
  • Prepare budgets and submit through appropriate channels for approval; monitor and control assigned program-operating budgets; initiate special fund requests; determine need and priority for capital equipment and materials.
  • Serve as a member of district, site or other committees and task forces.

NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS: 


  • Sensitivity to and an understanding of students from diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, racial, and ethnic backgrounds; students who are differently abled, and students who identify as part of the LGBTQIA+ community.
  • Knowledge of one or more of the five areas to which the Dean is assigned (Learning Assistance/Tutoring, Distance Education, Library Operations, Instructional Technology Services, Website support).
  • Ability to advance the College's vision, mission, and values in the LTR Division’s programs and services and within the institution.
  • Ability to advance the College's strategic goals related to access, success, retention, eliminating equity gaps, and increasing equity in hiring in the LTR Division’s programs and services and within the institution.
  • Commitment to the collaborative decision-making process and the collegial process, including the ability to work effectively and cooperatively with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Ability to exercise leadership to support instructional technology and learning resources, including interfacing with District, policies, procedures, and information services.
  • Ability to participate in the College planning process while participating in the achievement of the goals and priorities of the District as a whole.
  • Commitment to the community college concept, including the open-door philosophy and a diverse curriculum for a diverse student population.
  • Commitment to the delivery of equity minded online learning.
  • Commitment to a comprehensive, student-centered environment that facilitates learning and student development.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to use technology to support workflow, problem solving, and communication.
  • Ability to consistently perform duties with concern, courtesy, and respect for others, to employ a team approach through collaboration and empowerment of staff, to exhibit creativity and flexibility in a time of continuing change, and to seek solutions using effective problem-solving techniques.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Ability to interpret, articulate, and implement pertinent state and federal laws and regulations concerning community colleges, including Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Title 5 Regulations including 10+1, and the California Education Code.
  • Ability to develop and implement programs and services that foster student academic success.
  • Understanding of the teaching/learning process, curriculum, professional development, library, distance education and enrollment management within the context of institutions of higher education.
  • Ability to facilitate communication and understanding of perspectives among faculty, staff, students, the community, Chancellor, and the Governing Board within the framework of a multi-college district.
