Glendale Community College seeks a leader who is dedicated to all aspects of student success and closing equity gaps, to apply for its Dean of Library and Learning Resources position. Definition


Under executive direction, plans, directs, and administers instructional support operations for multiple departments, divisions, and/or programs including library services and learning resources; oversees the development of library and instructional materials and resources in support of classes and programs; leads the strategic planning and implementation of distance education; provides oversight of the Learning Commons, the Learning Center and faculty professional development programming; and performs other related duties as assigned.

Supervision


Works under the direct supervision of the Vice President, Instructional Services. 

Supervises lower-level managers, faculty, classified staff, temporary, and/or student employees.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • The following duties and responsibilities are typical of those performed by employees in this classification.
  • Plans, directs, and administers academic and/or student support operations for multiple departments, divisions, and/or programs, including library services, learning support services, and distance education. 
  • Oversees the development of library and instructional materials and resources in support of classes and programs. 
  • Leads the strategic planning and the implementation processes for distance education courses that reflect principles of learning theory; supports the implementation of distance education training for students and faculty. 
  • Provides oversight of the Learning Commons, the Learning Center and faculty professional development programming. 
  • Oversees instructional planning, enrollment management, curriculum development, curriculum review, student learning outcome analysis, and program and course review for assigned academic departments.
  • Oversees the implementation of effective strategies for teaching and learning technologies and methodologies in assigned programs; provides recommendations and makes decisions based on assessment of data and learning outcomes. 
  • Handles and resolves conflicts and issues and reports complaints as appropriate. 
  • Promotes diversity, equity, inclusion, cultural competency, and a positive work and academic environment. 
  • Develops, implements, establishes, and maintains policies, processes, and procedures for applicable departments; monitors and evaluates operational, department, and service quality; may recommend, develop, and implement quality improvement assessment tools and/or methods with administration and/or regulatory agencies.  
  • Directs and/or conducts surveys and special studies; maintains program statistics. 
  • Develops and implements short- and long-term strategies and plans.  
  • Reviews, administers, and monitors budgets for assigned areas which may include grant and special program budgets; approves and administers budget allocations and procurements for all assigned funds as appropriate; analyzes and reviews budgetary and financial data. 
  • Submits grant proposals for additional outside funds and resources. 
  • Coordinates and oversees the implementation and modification of technology.
  • Supervises department employees; assigns and monitors employee’s work and evaluates employee performance; trains employees; participates in employee selection. 
  • Monitors and reviews programs and/or operations for legal compliance.
  • Analyzes and interprets data; prepares, reviews, and/or approves documents and reports. 
  • May participate and/or chair committees and task forces.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


The education, training and experience qualifications are considered likely to provide the required knowledge and abilities to perform the above essential duties.

Education and Experience:


  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university. 
  • Five (5) years of management experience, including experience related to library services, learning resources, or distance education.

Under supervision of the Senior Manager of Collection Strategies and Discovery (CS&D), this position works in close consultation with the Cataloging and Metadata Librarian. The California State Library's Witkin State Law Library (a part of the California State Library), is seeking to hire two student assistants who will assist the library in digitizing historical regulatory and legislative documents, ensure they adhere to state-mandated accessibility standards, and organize this data for publication to the library’s website to make our unique print collection more broadly and easily accessible to our patrons throughout California and beyond.

The student assistant may also assist library staff in creating library research guides, developing event outreach contacts, and running library events. The student assistants will perform these tasks on a part-time basis with direction and supervision from department librarians. As part of a team, the students will train on project workflows, policies, and procedures focusing on digitization, preservation, document transcription, accessibility standards compliance, data entry, and collaborative webpage design.

Conditions of Employment

This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefited, student position. Employment in all positions with University Enterprises, Inc. is dependent upon the mutual consent of University Enterprises, Inc. and the employee. Overview of Position

The Library of the University of California, Davis, seeks a creative, versatile, and enterprising librarian to work closely with health sciences professional students, residents and fellows, clinical and teaching faculty and staff, and institutional stakeholders in a diverse, fast-paced academic health sciences environment. Work Schedule

Flexible workdays and work hours, Monday – Friday, between 8 AM – 5 PM. The final work schedule will be determined by the supervisor.

Additional Work Schedule

Student Assistant and Graduate Assistant employees generally work up to 24 hours per workweek (Sunday – Saturday) during the academic year and up to 40 hours per workweek during breaks; (winter, spring, and summer).

Minimum Qualifications

    Ability to use computer word processing software, email, scanners, and external hardware.

    Ability to stay focused while doing routine and repetitive tasks.

    Ability to alphabetize and put library materials in numerical order.

    Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

    Experience working in a library.

    Familiarity with library classification systems such as Dewey, Library of Congress, or Superintendent of Documents.

    Working knowledge of online databases, such as a library catalog.

    Ability to accurately search and interpret printed and online bibliographic records and printed reference works.

    Experience handling rare and/or fragile books.

Duties and Responsibilities

    Inventorying and barcoding print collections, which may involve linking to or creating item records in the library’s catalog and updating holdings records or other metadata.

    Search bibliographic databases such as Online Computer Library Center (OCLC) or the Catalog of Government Publications.

    Perform exact match copy cataloging by editing pre-existing bibliographic records for local use.

    Perform shelf reading, shelving, and collection shifting projects.

    Identify materials in need of repair or stabilization and process or refer as necessary.  

    Create labels and protective housing for materials that need additional protection.

    Digitize library collection material using a variety of different equipment, performing quality control and creating metadata for digital files to improve discoverability. 

    Other duties as assigned.

The County of Yolo is recruiting for one regular, full-time Library Regional Manager position at the Yolo County Library.  The  selected candidate will be primarily located at the Arthur F. Turner Community Library in West Sacramento.  The incumbent will report to the Assistant County Librarian and will oversee a cluster of branches in the East Yolo Region, consisting of the Yolo Branch Library, Arthur F. Turner Community Library, Knights Landing Branch Library, and Clarksburg Branch Library.  Additionally, the Library Regional Manager develops and administers policies concerning library operations, budgets, and programs, engages in the Library’s strategic directions and committees, assesses and analyzes community needs and program outcomes, evaluates staff performance, cultivates partnerships with community stakeholders, supports the Friends of the Library and more.   This position works with a diverse team of professionals, paraprofessionals and community members to deliver quality service and programming in rural and urban areas to support and engage residents in the region.
 

Essential Functions

  • Directly or through supervisory staff selects, trains, motivates, and evaluates assigned personnel; models expected behaviors and provides or coordinates staff training; works with employees to correct deficiencies; implements discipline and termination procedures.

Education: Master's Degree in Library Science, Library Information Services, or related library field or equivalent from an accredited graduate school of Librarianship; AND

Experience: Three (3) years of increasingly responsible professional library experience, including one year of branch operations coordination and/or supervisory experience.

Job Description Summary

Under general supervision, the Senior Library Technician performs specialized subprofessional library technical work. This class normally has responsibility for more difficult library technical duties and is normally assigned responsibility for a specific area, such as the main circulation area or the periodical circulation area of the library. Supervision and training of student assistants is a function associated with this class.
