Overview of Position
The Library of the University of California, Davis, seeks a creative, versatile, and enterprising librarian to work closely with health sciences professional students, residents and fellows, clinical and teaching faculty and staff, and institutional stakeholders in a diverse, fast-paced academic health sciences environment. Reporting to the Head of the Blaisdell Medical Library, the successful candidate will be responsible for partnering to improve the discovery and use of biomedical and health information, especially regarding clinical health care and translational research. In partnership with multiple stakeholders, the Health Sciences Librarian provides biomedical research and instructional services to the clinical and academic communities of the University of California, Davis. This position will work closely with the clinical programs and practices of the institution and is responsible for leading outreach and training to increase the value of library services to this community. The successful candidate must be able to independently and collaboratively plan, design, and collaborate on services for all the areas of import for the health sciences campus (research, education, clinical care) while also aligning such services with the University Library’s mission, vision, and strategic priorities.
Position Responsibilities
Under the general supervision of the Head of the Blaisdell Medical Library, the incumbent will:
- Design, develop and implement instruction sessions (including curricular collaborations) and learning materials (e.g., instructional objects, handouts, tutorials, videos, online guides, web-based information), both in-person and online, for graduate medical education residents, fellows, faculty, and other clinical health professionals on topics such as evidence-based practice (i.e. Fuld National Institute), scholarly activities, evidence syntheses, critical analysis, finding evidence for clinical care, and research and reproducibility best practices.
- Foster relationships, build strategic partnerships, and lead outreach efforts to graduate medical education and clinical programs (e.g., pharmacy, clinical nursing) groups to foster education and scholarship opportunities between the Library and these programs and clinics.
- Collaborate on creating and developing marketing and promotional materials for the UC Davis Health community.
- Provide consultations to faculty, residents, fellows, students, staff, and clinicians on topics such as finding quality evidence, finding and using data, data management and sharing, evidence syntheses, evidence appraisal, and the research publication lifecycle.
- Participate as a team member on the Library’s Systematic Reviews Team, and collaborate with researchers on evidence syntheses projects, including systematic reviews.
- Participate in program evaluation and learner assessment, as well as departmental and service evaluation and assessment work
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- As an academic appointee, engages actively in pertinent ongoing research, scholarship, or creative activity and/or teaching.
