This is a twelve-month, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Senior Assistant Librarian.

Qualifications: Required

§ MLS degree from an ALA accredited program or equivalent.

§ Experience and/or coursework in collection development, reference service/research consultation and information literacy/instruction.

§ Potential for scholarly research and/or professional achievement.

§ Awareness of and sensitivity to the educational needs of a diverse population, as gained through cross-cultural study, training, teaching and other comparable experience, as applied to ensuring user-centered services, systems, and programs.

§ Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.

§ Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with public and academic librarians and staff, teaching faculty, and students in a team-based organization and a rapidly changing information environment.

§ Demonstrated ability to plan, design, and implement innovative projects or services, including community outreach programs to the community.

§ Experience and/or coursework in incorporating current and emerging technologies into informational and instructional services.

Qualifications: Preferred

§ Experience and/or coursework in particularly, but not limited to Education, Business, and/or Social Sciences

§ Successful experience working in a team environment and potential for assuming increasing leadership responsibilities.

§ Experience and/or coursework employing various training and education approaches for advancing users’ information retrieval, evaluation, management, and dissemination proficiencies.

§ Familiarity with disciplinary electronic databases and major reference works.

§ Familiarity with issues in scholarly communication

§ Demonstrated ability to effectively organize work assignments, set priories and make decisions.

Responsibilities:
The Liaison Librarian is responsible for collection development, information literacy, reference service (to both university and public users) and research consultation in assigned subject areas. The Liaison Librarian participates in the library’s information literacy competence program, enhancement of the library’s technology-enabled informational and instructional services and products, the campus learning spaces and learning management systems, and university governance.

The Liaison Librarian:
1. Serves as outreach liaison to faculty and students in assigned disciplines, remaining conversant with curricular and program changes.
2. Provides specialized reference and research consultation in assigned subject areas.
3. Delivers information literacy instruction in the classroom, in online environments, and through faculty partnerships.
4. Ensures curriculum-aligned collection development, including selection, evaluation, and budget oversight for assigned subject areas.
5. Co-creates technology-enabled, user-centered disciplinary approaches for an increasingly electronic learning environment.
6. Participates in functional teams, library governance, professional development activities, and university service.
7. Identifies the information needs and learning preferences of a diverse student population – including age, cultural background, ethnicity, primary language, and academic preparation.
8. Builds a record of progressive scholarly and professional achievement to fulfill the University requirement of retention, tenure, and promotion.

Salary Range: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Starting Date: Spring 2012

Instruction/Reference Librarian - CSU Los Angeles

STARTING DATE: November 1, 2011

The California State University, Los Angeles, Library seeks an energetic, innovative, enthusiastic, and technologically knowledgeable librarian to participate and collaborate in the Library's extensive information literacy liaison program, including planning, teaching, and assessing library sessions for specific CSULA classes and workshops.

Will serve as a subject specialist liaison to academic departments and other programs in the areas of collection development and instruction.

Provide reference and research assistance during regularly scheduled hours at the Reference Desk, online, and by appointment for students, staff, and faculty. Reference responsibilities include some evening and weekend hours.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: MLS or equivalent from an ALA-accredited library school. Demonstrated strong user services orientation and enthusiasm for public service. Knowledge of instructional and reference methods. Demonstrated potential for effective teaching. Proven ability and experience in using academic electronic and print resources.

Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing in English.

Ability to work independently and within a team setting. Demonstrated ability and/or interest in working in a multicultural, multi-ethnic environment.

DESIRED/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience in an academic library.

Demonstrated teaching experience and familiarity with information literacy standards and outcomes as they reflect current library teaching practice. Experience with learning management software (e.g., Moodle).

Experience in creating and maintaining web pages and/or using authoring and presentation software. An advanced degree, substantial coursework or background/work experience in the social sciences and/or education.

Reference LIbrarian (Temporary) - Holy Names University - Oakland Hills

The Library at Holy Names University (3500 Mountain Boulevard, in the Oakland Hills) has an immediate opening for a part-time, temporary assistant reference librarian available one weeknight a week (the exact night to be determined in conversation with the library team), and Saturdays (10 a.m. – 3 p.m.), for a total of 8 hours per week through the end of spring semester, 2012.

This librarian will provide direct reference/research help in person and online to students, faculty, staff, and other members of the Holy Names University community. Also assists with circulation duties when needed. Other tasks may include updating resource guides (Libguides), assisting with library events, or other activities in support of the library’s mission.

Required:

  • Masters of Library and Information Science
  • At least one year experience providing reference in an academic setting
