Essential Functions of Position Fresno City College is seeking a knowledgeable and motivated librarian with a strong commitment to service to provide one-on-one instruction to students and to participate in library instruction and campus outreach services. Under the direction of the Dean of Library and Student Learning Support Services, the successful candidate will:
  • Provide one-to-one reference and reader’s advisory services to students.
  • Conduct bibliographic instruction for students in a classroom environment.
  • Plan and present library tours.
  • Collaborate with faculty to increase awareness of library resources to students.
  • Promote library resources and services to faculty, students and campus groups.
  • Collaborate with other librarians in the development of budget proposals.
  • Participate in the program review process for the library and library technology programs.
  • Participate in identification and evaluation of electronic resources.
  • Participate in academic committee work.
  • Otherwise fulfill the duties and responsibilities of instructional staff as required by Administrative Regulation 7122.
In addition, the successful candidate may:
  • Collaborate with other librarians to establish library policies and procedures.
  • Participate in collection development.
  • Participate in planning and implementing the college’s information competency goals.
  • Collaborate with other librarians to design and develop library research skills and library technology courses and workshops.
  • Be required to work some evenings and Saturdays as part of contract load.
  • Teach credit courses in an online or face-to-face environment.
Minimum Qualifications Include a master’s degree in library science, or library and information science, OR a valid California Community College Credential OR the equivalent education and/or experience AND demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
Desirable Qualifications Include work or volunteer experience in a library setting, especially in a community college; experience with readers advisory and reference services; knowledge of the current state of information technology in libraries; knowledge of collection development functions; and, experience in library instruction.
Conditions of Employment 177 duty days per year.
Salary and Benefits Starting salary is $51,992 – $78,276. A doctoral stipend of $1,945 is available. In addition, the district offers an attractive fringe benefit package including health, dental, and vision coverage for the employee and dependents, and life insurance for employees. Employees are also members of the California State Teachers’ Retirement System (CalSTRS).

Selection Procedure Applications will be screened to determine which applicants meet the minimum qualifications as stated in the job announcement.
From the applicants who meet the minimum qualifications and who have submitted all the required documents, a selection committee will determine the candidates that meet the highest degree of desirable qualifications. They will be invited to interview. Interviewees may be asked to conduct a short teaching demonstration and/or writing prompt.
The selection committee will rate responses to the interview questions and the teaching demonstration/writing prompt (if applicable). Based on this rating, a small number of applicants will be selected as the “recommended candidates”. These candidates will be forwarded to the Vice President of Instruction and College President for final interviews. A hiring recommendation will be made by the College President and forwarded to the Board of Trustees of State Center Community College District for final approval.
