The Tulare County Library invites you to apply for the position of Librarian II.

Tulare County is home to many scenic wonders, such as Sequoia and Kings Canyon national parks, that offer year-round recreational activities. Visalia, the County seat, is the gateway to Sequoia National Park and a variety of recreational activities. The city, with a population of 120,000 is within a four hour drive of either San Francisco or Los Angeles, and a 2-1/2 hour drive of California's central coastline. Its family-oriented lifestyle and affordable housing have proven attractive to people from all areas of the state and country. The Tulare County Library serves its 425,000 citizens with branch libraries in fifteen communities. The library currently operates a $4.7 million budget with a staff of 40 FTE. The Tulare County Library is a member of the San Joaquin Valley Library System, a cooperative network of ten public library jurisdictions in seven counties of California's central valley. The Tulare County Library prides itself on providing innovative, cutting edge, library services to both the affluent urban area as well as the rural poor.

Responsibilities may include, but are not necessarily limited to: Assist in the planning and direction of a specialized phase of the library program; perform reference work and provide advisory service; assist with the creation and management of web pages, blogs, wikis, and other types of electronic communication tools; prepare brochures, bookmarks, and other promotional and publicity items; prepare reporters and correspondence; promote use of the library through community meetings and the media; give demonstrations and conduct story hours for children; attend and participate in workshops, seminars, conferences and training programs; review library collection to determine whether repair, replacements or additions are needed; catalog and classify library materials, assign materials to branch libraries to meet community needs and interests ; assist in planning and preparing exhibits, displays and bulletin boards; evaluate subject fields and select books; assist with hiring training and evaluating employees; operate computers and other types of automated equipment.

Education Required: Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills and abilities would be equivalent to a Master*s degree in Library Science from an accredited college or university, plus one year of experience as a Librarian (equivalent to that of a Librarian I with Tulare County.)
Salary: $39,350 - $47,963
