Summary

The Library Program at Contra Costa College seeks a full-time, tenure-track instructional librarian starting August 2020.

The successful applicant will be responsible for facilitating library instruction both face to face and online. This relates to ongoing and future projects involving library resources and services. They will provide reference services and student support, delivery of library instruction, faculty services, and other resources to students. Duties and Responsibilities


The position will engage in a full range of reference, library instruction, collection management and outreach activities. In addition to contractual duties, all faculty are expected to participate actively in their disciplines, department activities, and the general intellectual life and governance of the college. Part of the assignment may be in the evening and/or online. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

1. providing vision, direction, and leadership in the development, delivery, and assessment of all Library instructional efforts for campus-based and distance education;
2. providing reference service and instruction on the use of print and electronic information resources to students, faculty, staff and the community;

This is a full-time tenure track, 10 month-per-year faculty position.  Full-time library faculty are expected to participate in a variety of program areas, including information competency instruction, reference service, collection development, liaising with discipline faculty, and providing web-based services for distance learners. This librarian's primary responsibility will be to coordinate and teach in the library's noncredit instructional/workshop program, including developing, designing, implementing, and assessing a noncredit online information competency program for distance education learners. Full-time librarian assignments may be reallocated periodically.

Full-time library faculty work 35 hours per week, and assignments may include evening and weekend hours and/or work at other GCC locations in addition to the Verdugo campus. Participation in professional activities, faculty meetings, campus meetings governance committees, assessment activities, and curriculum development is also required. This position reports to the Dean, Library and Learning Support Services.

The GCC Library is a fast-paced, student-centered, teaching library. The successful candidate will be able to work collaboratively in a team environment and have skills in instruction, reference, information technology, electronic resources, collection development, and technical services. This assignment will provide leadership in re-visioning the library's current noncredit instruction/workshop program, including the creation, maintenance, and assessment of instructional videos, tutorials, and other innovative online learning tools.

POSITION PURPOSE

The University Library at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for a Processing Archivist. Under the direction of the Supervisory Archivist, the Processing Archivist will work collaboratively within the department to arrange and describe archival collections of varying formats, including born-digital, audiovisual, photographic, and paper materials. The Processing Archivist provides excellent service to users by promoting and facilitating access to collections through archival processing and by providing regular service on the Special Collections Reference Desk and remote reference services when necessary.

The Processing Archivist employs archival standards and best practices to survey, arrange, describe, and preserve a wide variety of archival collections. The Archivist is responsible for using Guidelines for Efficient Archival Processing in the University of California Libraries to create EAD-encoded, DACS-compliant finding aids for these collections in ArchivesSpace that will be accessible to the public via the Online Archive of California. The Processing Archivist works a regular shift at the Special Collections reference desk.
