Summary
The Library Program at Contra Costa College seeks a full-time, tenure-track instructional librarian starting August 2020.
The successful applicant will be responsible for facilitating library instruction both face to face and online. This relates to ongoing and future projects involving library resources and services. They will provide reference services and student support, delivery of library instruction, faculty services, and other resources to students. They will participate in the shared governance model at Contra Costa College by being involved on committees.
Successful applicants will demonstrate discipline expertise as well as sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic backgrounds and abilities of community college students.

Duties and Responsibilities
The position will engage in a full range of reference, library instruction, collection management and outreach activities. In addition to contractual duties, all faculty are expected to participate actively in their disciplines, department activities, and the general intellectual life and governance of the college. Part of the assignment may be in the evening and/or online. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
1. providing vision, direction, and leadership in the development, delivery, and assessment of all Library instructional efforts for campus-based and distance education;
2. providing reference service and instruction on the use of print and electronic information resources to students, faculty, staff and the community;
3. participating in the collection, development and implementation of print and electronic information resources and services;
4. providing course related library instruction;
5. collaborating with faculty on assignments, collection needs, and integration of information literacy into the college curriculum;
6. developing library collections in the assigned subject areas;
7. contributing to the development and maintenance of the Library’s web page;
8. maintaining current knowledge in the field of Library Science and Information Management;
9. participating in department, college committees, and College’s shared governance process;
10. participating in professional development activities;
11. maintaining of appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics;
12. performing other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualification-Education/Experience
Master’s in library science, library and information science
OR
California Community College Credential authorizing teaching in Library Science
OR
the equivalent.

Desirable Qualifications
The screening committee will select for interview candidates who, in addition to meeting the minimum requirements, give evidence of any or all of the following:
1. Commitment to student learning and to the success of all students in the open-access learning environment of a community college;
2. Ability to promote equity and ability to motivate and teach community college students of diverse ethnic and racial backgrounds, socio economic backgrounds, sexual orientations, genders, cultures, and learning styles, as well as students with disabilities or varied levels of academic preparation;
3. Experience in using and/or providing support of research resources and learning technologies such as databases, integrated library systems, discovery layers, learning management systems, etc.;
4. Ability to plan and implement library projects;
5. Apply diverse life and teaching experiences to student learning and success;
6. Commitment to student-centered library services;
7. Knowledgeable about textbook affordability strategies and initiatives;
8. Ability to work creatively, collaboratively, and effectively;
9. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
10. Support a variety of teaching modalities (including face-to-face and distance education).
