Description
This is a full-time tenure track, 10 month-per-year faculty position.  Full-time library faculty are expected to participate in a variety of program areas, including information competency instruction, reference service, collection development, liaising with discipline faculty, and providing web-based services for distance learners. This librarian's primary responsibility will be to coordinate and teach in the library's noncredit instructional/workshop program, including developing, designing, implementing, and assessing a noncredit online information competency program for distance education learners. Full-time librarian assignments may be reallocated periodically.

Full-time library faculty work 35 hours per week, and assignments may include evening and weekend hours and/or work at other GCC locations in addition to the Verdugo campus. Participation in professional activities, faculty meetings, campus meetings governance committees, assessment activities, and curriculum development is also required. This position reports to the Dean, Library and Learning Support Services.

The GCC Library is a fast-paced, student-centered, teaching library. The successful candidate will be able to work collaboratively in a team environment and have skills in instruction, reference, information technology, electronic resources, collection development, and technical services. This assignment will provide leadership in re-visioning the library's current noncredit instruction/workshop program, including the creation, maintenance, and assessment of instructional videos, tutorials, and other innovative online learning tools.

Examples of Duties
Coordinate the library's noncredit instruction program, including scheduling, training, and evaluating adjunct librarians in the workshop program;
Evaluate and assess the library's current noncredit workshop program;
Provide leadership, vision, and support for the Library's Distance Education (DE) initiatives;
Promote DE activities across the campus, encouraging and generating broad participation by faculty and students;
Provide leadership in the creation, maintenance, and assessment of instructional videos, tutorials, and other innovative learning tools, including the incorporation of active learning;
Collaborate with Disabled Students Programs and Services and the DE program to ensure accessibility and compliance;
Teach face-to-face, library instruction sessions including workshops, orientations, and/or embedded instruction;
Teach library credit classes online and/or in-person;
Teach professional development sessions to faculty and staff;
Maintain knowledge of emerging pedagogical best practices, learning initiatives, and technologies online and face-to-face;
Oversee the formulation of Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) and the Student Learning Outcomes assessment cycle for the noncredit information competency program;
Serve as the librarian representative on campus committees;
Participate in curriculum development and serve on department, division, college and district committees as necessary to integrate information competency skills and library services;
Participate in Library program review;
Participate in co-curricular activities, including planning, implementing, and teaching in special programs designed to support student success;
Collaborate with faculty in assigned divisions to increase students' information competency development and knowledge of library resources and services;
Conduct reference interactions in person, by phone, and online;
Participate in collection development;
Participate in professional development and continuing education activities in order to remain current with trends and developments in DE. 

Minimum Qualifications
Master's in library science or library and information science from an ALA-accredited institution OR the equivalent.
