Description
Woodbury University invites applications for the position of Library Cataloger to lead the development and management of Woodbury Library’s cataloging efforts, digital projects, and unique collections. The successful candidate will facilitate discovery and ensure access to our collections through high quality cataloging and metadata practices. Reporting to the Systems Librarian, the Library Cataloger leads, plans, coordinates, and manages all aspects of the workflow of the cataloging department, course reserves, and stacks management.
This position qualifies for University sponsored employee benefit plans and programs (e.g., group health insurance, life insurance, tax deferred annuity plan, annual vacation, sick, and paid holidays), subject to the eligibility requirements and conditions of each plan and program.
Responsibilities
Provide leadership in developing, evaluating and implementing workflows for authoring and managing metadata for library resources into the Library’s LMS, OCLC’s WorldShare Management Services.
Provide original and copy cataloging of various materials across multiple languages, formats and time periods in a contemporary MARC-based environment according to national and local standards.
Provide training, oversight, and guidance to library staff for technical services processes, course reserves, stacks management, and digital archives.
Process and maintain course reserves using OCLC’s WMS. Ensure copyright compliance and adherence to ALA-endorsed fair use policies for course reserves.
Coordinate the organization and maintenance of the physical resources in the library. Facilitate regular, systematic inventory of the library collections.
Collaborate in the development and expansion of the Woodbury University History Collection digital archive. Prioritize, process, and catalog materials for inclusion.
Back up for public services desk: perform full range of circulation/public service desk duties, respond to patron inquiries.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements
ALA-accredited master’s degree in Library and Information Science or equivalent foreign degree.
Minimum three years of cataloging experience demonstrating substantial, advanced work with a variety of materials and formats, preferably in an academic or research library.
Proficiency in the use of WorldShare (OCLC) Library Resources Management System or similar product for cataloging, and experience with all aspects of materials circulation and patron management.
Familiarity with OCLC WMS Record Manager; RDA Toolkit; classification Web; CONTENTdm; MS Office 365.
Demonstrated working knowledge of RDA, LCCS, LCSH, and MARC formats and standards.
One year of library public service experience.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret for implementation technical journals and software documentation/manuals.
Proficiency with data collection, analysis, and using data to make evidence-based decisions..
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills, particularly the ability to explain complex concepts to a wide variety of people in individual and group settings.
Demonstrated understanding of current issues and emerging developments within the national cataloging environment, in particular, and within librarianship, in general.
Preferred qualifications
Awareness and engagement with critical concerns in the discipline
Working knowledge of at least one foreign language
Subject knowledge in one or more art, architecture, or design disciplines
Physical Requirements:
Close vision, hearing/listening, and clear speech.
Manual hand/fingers dexterity.
Walking, lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds.
Ability to utilize office equipment such as computers, scanners and copiers
Combination of sedentary work, kneeling, stooping, bending, sitting, squatting, standing, etc.
Works with/around and has verbal and face-to-face contact with others.
Works indoors in an office environment majority of the time.
