The library operates under a team-based structure and library faculty perform multiple roles, including technical services, public services, user instruction, access and discovery of materials.
Managing the library’s electronic and digital resources through various library platforms, including but not limited to Alma/Primo and OCLC WorldShare/Connexion.
Collaborating with area colleagues to facilitate projects, workflows, goals, and outcomes related to technical services.
Providing information, training, and support to inform colleagues and the campus of new features and interface changes related to e-resource discovery and utilization.
Provide reference, instructional sessions, orientations, and workshops to students and faculty through multiple modalities.

El Camino College (ECC) is seeking a full-time, tenure-track Librarian specializing in Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility (DEIA) efforts to join its team. This position will encourage positive race-consciousness and embrace human difference within the library and its services; support culturally responsive practices within the library; and strategically build buy-in and participation among colleagues for equity-related initiatives within the department. We are seeking applicants who have a commitment to student success and can participate in a team environment dedicated to excellent service and culturally responsive librarianship that addresses the racial, gender, socioeconomic, academic, and cultural diversity within our community college student population. Our emphasis on creativity, collaboration, and intentional use of technology makes the Schauerman Library a dynamic workplace. Some assignments may include evening, weekend hours, and/or dual enrollment support or courses offered offsite on high school campuses.
The DEIA Librarian will perform outreach ties with programs across campus and ECC Affinity Centers, such as the Social Justice Center, Black Student Success Center, and others. Responsibilities include engaging underserved students using a variety of approaches that improve first-year student retention and student success. Primary duties include integrating instructional support and co-curricular activities as well as collaborating with the Outreach Librarian to support the library's efforts in outreach and marketing of library services. The successful candidate will have responsibility for helping students remain on their paths in a manner that is integrated and intrusive by providing equity-minded leadership in the development, assessment, and continuous improvement of the library services.
The successful candidate will provide vision and leadership that reflects current needs and anticipates future work related to diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility in the evolving library and information environment. They will participate in Reference Desk duties, as well as face-to-face and online library instruction. Other duties as assigned. May also develop and teach Pathway to Academic Success courses.
The position requires participation in a variety of campus and divisional activities such as department meetings, committee meetings, student activities, and individualized support for students. Faculty are also expected to foster collaborations with employers, industry/trade groups, universities, and high school partners and form partnerships with related instructional disciplines to support Guided Pathway initiatives and to improve student outcomes.
Extensive knowledge in the field applicable to current industry standards is required as well as participation on advisory boards.

The Education Librarian has primary responsibility for supporting the research, information, collection, and instructional needs of the Kalmanovitz School of Education (KSOE) faculty and students and other departments as assigned. KSOE offers graduate programs awarding master's degrees, certificates, and an Ed.D. The incumbent will also provide general reference and instructional services, serve on Library and College committees, and assume other duties as needed. Reports to the Head of Teaching and Research Services.
1. Information Literacy Instruction (35%)
- Teaches information literacy sessions for the graduate-level programs of the Kalmanovitz School of Education and other School of Liberal Arts departments as assigned, meeting the campus-wide and department specific student learning outcomes
- Develops research guides and tutorials related to subjects in the School
- As time permits, contributes to the team of librarians covering information literacy instruction in the undergraduate composition program
2. Collection Development (20%)
- Serves as Subject Selector and actively works with faculty departmental liaisons to develop priorities for selection of digital and print materials, maintaining an appropriate collection of books, journals, databases, media and related resources
- Manages the development, policy, and procedures for the Children's Literature collection
- Provides Library Resource and Information Literacy reviews for proposed new courses,
programs, and program reviews within assigned discipline areas
3. Reference (25%)
- Provides research advice and assistance in person and online to all SMC students, faculty, and staff and non-SMC users (5+ hours per week at the reference desk, average of 2-4 hours per week answering emails and conducting reference consultations with KSOE students and faculty)
- Maintains in-depth knowledge of information sources relevant to assigned subject areas and works with faculty to stay abreast of the curriculum and assist students in successfully completing research assignments
4. Scholarly Communications (5%)
- Supports the library’s open access/open educational resources initiatives
- Assists faculty in KSOE and other assigned departments with keeping their scholar profiles and works in Digital Commons up to date
5. Campus and Professional Contributions (10%)
- Actively seeks out and participates in events and opportunities to communicate the Library's collections and services
- Coordinates annual workshop for local high school librarians
- Serves on library and college committees as assigned
- Contributes to the profession through involvement in professional organizations, conference presentations, research and/or publications

Experience and Qualifications
MLS or equivalent from ALA accredited program.
