Situated between rolling hills and the San Francisco Bay, the Berkeley Public Library, established in 1893, has a Central Library and four branches, Tool Lending Library & Adult Literacy program. For its population size, Berkeley Public Library is one of the most heavily used public libraries in California. The Berkeley Public Library supports the individual’s right to know by providing free access to information and developing collections and services that meet the needs of our diverse community. This is an especially exciting time for BPL as we near the date to break ground on a $26 million branch renovation project approved by our voters in 2008. Our Central Library constructed in 2002 is also in the midst of its own makeover which focuses on streamlining the physical layout and service model.

The Berkeley Public Library is currently looking for a qualified and energetic candidate to lead Youth Services. This eligible list may also be used to fill any future vacancies for Library Services Manager in Technical Services & Collection Development or Neighborhood Services.

Library Services Manager is considered a division head accountable for major system wide programs, services and operations in either the Central Library or over branch libraries. Incumbents are key members of the Library's management team and as such assist in the development of policies, procedures, and major planning initiatives. Responsibilities include; the oversight and supervision of all planning, budgeting, operations and personnel management activities in the division. Additionally, the Youth Services Manager establishes, directs, and maintains standards of service to children and young adults system-wide, including oversight of collection management, public events and programs, customer service standards, electronic resources, and outreach to youth and families. Base Salary Range: $86,927-$104,749

*City pays an additional 8% on behalf of employee to (CalPERS) plus other retirement contributions.
