Library Technology Instructor - Santa Ana College

Santa Ana College is developing a pool of qualified applicants for part-time and

substitute teaching opportunities in this discipline: Library Technology

Seeking a part-time instructor to teach

Library Technology 110, “Technical Services”

START DATE: Fall 2011 (Semester begins August 22, 2011)

Course is to be taught on Wednesday evenings from 6:00-9:10pm

RESPONSIBILITIES: Teach Library Technology 110, Technical Services. Course introduces students to fundamentals of acquisitions, basic theories, principles and concepts of bibliographic control, including descriptive cataloging, classification, subject analysis, authority control and bibliographic maintenance. Emphasis placed on cataloging standards, MARC21 formats, original and copy cataloging and online bibliographic utility.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: (Applicants must meet one of the following): Possess from an accredited institution: A Bachelor's degree or equivalent foreign degree, plus two years of professional experience directly related to the faculty member's assignment, OR an Associate degree, or equivalent foreign degree plus six years of professional experience directly related to the faculty member's assignment, OR Possess a valid California Community College credential authorizing service in the discipline, OR the equivalent (applicants not meeting the above minimum qualifications must complete the Equivalencies Section in the application form.)

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Teaching experience, a Master's in Library Science or Library and Information Science, recent working or teaching experience in library field with Technical Services (Acquisitions and Cataloging), demonstrated knowledge of current cataloging standards, trends and practices and demonstrated proficiency in the use of cataloging tools, effective verbal and written communication skills
and a working knowledge of, and experience with, student learning outcomes and assessment.
