The Content Acquisition and Resource Sharing (CARS) program is responsible for providing access to needed information resources through purchasing, resource sharing, and licensed resources. CARS uses the appropriate tools to locate and/or request resources as efficiently as possible and on the best possible terms. The Program also provides collection and financial analysis for the Library's collections budget.

Program activities include:
  1. Acquiring and licensing print and electronic content.
  2. Receiving, paying for, and managing cataloging records for all vendor-provided shelf-ready and DDA materials, regardless of language.
  3. Providing, maintaining and troubleshooting electronic access to content for the University campus (includes UCSD Health System).
  4. Actively participating in responding to questions regarding electronic resource access problems.
  5. Participating in UC wide collaborative acquisition programs.
  6. Interlibrary Loan (Borrowing and Lending).
  7. Paying for purchased and licensed content
  8. Fiscal oversight and management of collections budget, resolution of payment problems, and working with vendors and campus offices as needed. This includes responding to both internal and external audits.
  9. Proactively providing data and analysis for library decision-makers and external organizations.
  10. Receiving and managing the disposition of gifts of books, journals, and media from donors.
