POSITION SUMMARY:
The Library Assistant for New Materials and Visual Resources supports
study and teaching at the college by facilitating physical and
intellectual access to specialized collections. Duties include public
services, cataloging, and creation and management of digital image
files.
REPORTS TO: Associate Director of Libraries
DEPARTMENT: Library
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
New Materials Library
• Assist students and faculty using the collection
• Check samples in and out, following established library policy and procedures
• Maintain housing and arrangement of the samples
• Create and enhance cataloging records for the samples
• Assist with acquisition of new material samples
• Collect statistics and other data about collection use
• Perform inventory and other tasks
Visual Resources
• Create digital images via copystand photography or scanning to
support teaching, research, and archival preservation at the college
• Provide quality control for image files, including post-production editing in Photoshop and standardized file naming
• Catalog digital images for upload to ARTstor, CCA Vault, or other services
• Archive image files on designated media/servers; create derivatives as needed
• Assist with physical maintenance of image collections, including slide filing and organization
• Perform inventories of art works and related materials
General Library
• Provide general public services, including circulation desk duties
• Assist with processing of general library materials
• May supervise workstudy students
• Other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor degree, preferably in an art or design related field; interest
and familiarity with materials science highly desirable. Previous work
experience in a library preferred. Skills needed are 1) experience
using a digital SLR camera, flatbed scanner, and Photoshop; 2) ability
to perform accurate data entry following established guidelines, 3) good
communication skills for working with students, faculty, and staff; 4)
attention to detail; and 5) general aptitude with online and digital
technologies.
