JOB SUMMARY

  • 10 months per year, 5 days per week,
  • 3.75 hours per day
  • Shift Hours: Monday - Friday 9:30 a.m. – 1:15 p.m.
  • Number of Paid Days: 217 Days

TESTING


NCLB Instructional Aide Testing: Tests are given every 2nd & 4th Thursday of each month at 1:30 p.m.

–OR–

Complete 48 semester units of college course work.

QUALIFICATIONS


Knowledge and Ability:


1. Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, methods and equipment.
2. Knowledge of standard library practices, procedures and terminology.
3. Knowledge of basic reference sources and materials.
4. Knowledge of English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
5. Knowledge of basic computer skills and familiarity with software applications commonly used in a
school setting.
6. Knowledge of Internet use, related security risks and precautions.
7. Ability to process and catalog print and non-print media.
8. Ability to do simple reference work.
9. Ability to assist students in the selection of library materials.
10.Ability to maintain discipline and motivate students.
11.Ability to work effectively in the absence of supervision.
12.Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the
course of work.
13.Ability to type at a speed necessary to complete work in a reasonable time.
14.Ability to understand and carry-out oral and written directions.
15.Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES


Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience: 


One (1) year of general office experience.

Training: 


Formal or informal training which provides the ability to read and write at a level necessary for job performance.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS


Incumbents must meet one of the following criteria:

  • Possess an Associate of Arts (or higher) degree or,
  • Have completed 48 units from an accredited institution of higher learning after graduation from high school or,
  • Pass District proficiency test in reading/writing, mathematics and the ability to assist in instruction.
