GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES


The Cuyamaca College Library seeks a creative, collaborative, student-centered, equity-minded professional with the passion and ability to advance the library’s information literacy priorities through their position as librarian.

Under an assigned supervisor, Cuyamaca College librarians participate in the planning, implementation and evaluation of library instruction and services that will facilitate learning, support the college curriculum, and contribute to the mission of the college and the district. We are looking for a librarian with a wide range of experience and/or the ability to wear many hats. Librarians at Cuyamaca College need to be willing to learn all aspects of library programs and operations in support of student success. This includes developing and maintaining cooperative relationships with students, faculty and staff, serving as a collection development liaison with instruction and student services departments, and supporting the library services platform, the library website, LibGuides, and electronic resources. 
 
All librarians are assigned reference desk hours. Reference service usually includes providing individual library instruction. 

All librarians are also expected to provide some formal group classroom and online library instruction sessions. These sessions are usually given to classes in connection with specific research assignments. 

Committee work outside the library is expected.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: APPLICANTS MUST MEET ONE OF THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA: 


Master's in library science, library and information science; OR A current California Community College Credential that permits full-time service as a Librarian; OR The equivalent.

Applicants must demonstrate sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of students.

NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS: 


•    Providing reference service. 

•    Working effectively and professionally with faculty, staff, administrators and

students. 
•    Collection development. 

•    Library information systems and advanced technologies including: computers, multimedia hardware and software, electronic databases, discovery resources, utilities such as on-line catalogs, bibliographic records, 

•    Internet, and information networks. 

•    Classroom and online library instruction sessions. 

•    Oral and written communication skills. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 


•    Experience working in an Academic (college or university) Library. 

•    Experience with developing resources for online use.

•    Experience managing library web platforms such as LibGuides.

•    Commitment to remain current in library and information science.

•    Skills and abilities to motivate students from a broad spectrum of cultural,

socioeconomic and language backgrounds. 

•    Ability to develop outreach programs.

•    Ability to develop instructional programs in the library and information field.
