DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION INCLUDE:


Engage with diverse communities, especially historically under-resourced communities, and design equity-informed library programming and services to meet their needs.  Develop, teach, and assess information literacy in various environments, particularly keeping equity in mind, including one-time visits to classes and in-person or online presentations. Keep current with trends and developments in equity-oriented and non-traditional library practices. Help design effective assessment strategies of the library’s equity and open access initiatives. Provide equity-minded leadership in the development, assessment and continuous improvement of the library’s reference services, face-to-face and online information literacy instruction program. Provide focused support for the delivery of library instruction, services, and resources to diverse populations at De Anza College. Create and curate user guides, promotional materials, and publicity spotlighting multicultural and equity-minded resources, services, and programs. Assist in collection development management by reviewing, evaluating, and recommending new materials as well as evaluating and weeding materials (print and electronic). Assist students with information searches and, in some contexts, provide training in reference and citation techniques. Assist faculty with the integration of library research and information retrieval skills in their courses both face-to-face and in the course management system.  Collaborate with other college faculty in developing information competency components within their disciplines. Develop curriculum to offer for-credit courses in information literacy and research skills. Assist in the supervision and training of work study students employed at the library. Perform other related tasks as required.

Standard duties expected of all faculty include development and evaluation of curricula, maintaining scheduled office hours, attending department and division meetings, pursuing professional growth activities, service on district and/or college committees, and performing other duties consistent with the role of an instructor.  Instructors also have the opportunity to participate in campus extra-curricular activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


1.                   Understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty and staff.

2.                   Master’s in library science, or library and information science, OR the equivalent.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

1.                   Thorough knowledge of current trends and developments in the library profession and in multicultural resources and equity-minded practices

2.                   Experience with Library Services Platform (ExLibris Alma/Primo VE preferred)

3.                   Knowledge of and experience in using appropriate resources, including electronic, for locating information effectively and quickly

4.                   Experience with a current version of a course management system (Canvas preferred)

5.                   Ability to work independently as well as part of a team and to interact effectively with others in an educational environment

6.                   Excellent oral and written communication skills, including using online tools to communicate to an audience

7.                   Willingness to learn new skills in a constantly changing environment

8.                   Ability to organize work for efficient use of time

9.                   Experience in collection development and programming

10.                Experience in initiatives related to closing equity gaps and engaging in equitable practices

11.                Experience providing reference assistance to students, faculty, and staff in a technologically advanced library environment

12.                Experience in teaching in face-to-face and online education environments

13.                Demonstrated proficiency in the development of print and web-based instructional materials for credit and/or no-credit courses, orientation sessions, workshops, and tutorials
