POSITION DETAILS:
This is a probationary, 12-month, tenure-track position at the Senior Assistant/Associate Librarian rank with an expected start date of Spring 2022; salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. Librarians in the CSU system enjoy full faculty status and as such are eligible for campus service opportunities, sabbatical and other leaves, and additional benefits. Librarians are represented under Unit 3 of the California Faculty Association (CFA). JOB DUTIES:
Under the general direction of the Head of Research & Instruction Department, the Public Health and Science Librarian is the primary contact for departments of Public Health, Health Science, and Environmental Studies, and the Nutrition, Food & Dietetics program. The Public Health and Science Librarian will be responsible for providing high-quality services including course-related library instruction; effective and scalable discipline-specific online instruction modules, research guides, and/or other learning objects; reference and research consultation in person or using communication technologies.
The Librarian evaluates information needs and plans, implements, and assesses initiatives that support Public Health, Health Science, Environmental Studies, Nutrition, Food & Dietetics, and other science faculty and students across campus. The Librarian is responsible for collection development in assigned subjects and coordinates with other liaison librarians and library departments in special projects, such as journal cancellations, major purchase decisions, or major withdrawal/transfer projects of bound journal volumes or books.
The Public Health and Science Librarian contributes to library-wide decision-making and serves on Library committees as needed.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- American Library Association accredited Master’s degree or ALA-approved international equivalent.
- Two-years of professional library experience or two years of experience relevant to public health, environmental science, nutrition, or other related science field.
- Knowledge of or experience with library research resources from any of the following areas: public health, environmental science, or nutrition.
- Demonstrated interest and/or engagement in information literacy and instructional design.
- Familiarity with current trends and technologies in library and information science, particularly as they relate public health and other policy-focused science disciplines.
- Demonstrated oral, written, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong commitment to equity and inclusion and the demonstrated ability to work effectively and collegially with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds and identities.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Knowledge or experience in providing informational literacy instruction in public health and science fields, in particular applying the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education.
- Experience with outreach, marketing, and promotion of library services to the campus and community.
- Experience with assessment of library services to the students and teaching faculty.
- Collection development course work or experience particularly in the fields of public health, environmental science and/or nutrition.
- Knowledge of or experience with reference and research consultations.
- Knowledge of open educational resources, affordable learning solutions
- Knowledge of scholarly communication, research data management, or data visualization.
- Experience working in academic library setting.
- Bachelor’s or advanced degree in a subject area relevant to the position.
