Under the general direction of the Supervising Librarian II, the incumbent is responsible for various library technical services functions including cataloging, integrated library system maintenance, management of electronic resources, and intranet/internet page maintenance. The incumbent also provides reference services to serve the work-related information needs of Caltrans employees statewide, and performs outreach and training in the use of library resources and services. Duties include: Catalogs library materials using Online Computer Library Center (OCLC) national cataloging system; edits and revises OCLC cataloging copy to meet needs of small specialized collection; develops cataloging policies and procedures; serves as lead for database licensing and electronic content; identifies new resources for licensing and ensures implementation of new licenses; develops and maintains the Library’s intranet and internet sites; provides reference services on a rotating basis with other staff; performs outreach activities (presentations, newsletters, social media, etc.); creates and implements current awareness services for Caltrans staff (table of contents alerts, etc.); develops and presents training for Caltrans staff in the use of library resources and services. The incumbent must have the ability to develop a thorough understanding of customer and technical services in a special library. The incumbent must have mastery of standard PC software, including Microsoft Office, and a knowledge of Web development tools and standards such as Adobe Dreamweaver, Java-based technologies, HTML and XML, or the ability to learn. The incumbent must possess the ability and willingness to learn and be innovative in a rapidly changing information environment.
