DUTIES:
The Research Division is seeking a part time Librarian to assist in operating both the Science Library and the Law Library, which serves employees working in California Environmental Protection Agency (Cal/EPA) headquarters building and in regional/satellite offices. The Librarian provides reference/research, document retrieval, and interlibrary loan services for all Library users. The Librarian performs independent research to meet requests for specific information and determines the best and most cost-effective methods of meeting those requests. The Librarian will direct daily operation of the Law Library, oversee vendor contracts, process and catalog new materials, maintain online catalogs, and provide training to staff. This position may be increased to full-time in the future.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of established techniques and practices for classifying and cataloging materials, such as the Dewey decimal system and the Library of Congress system. Excellent organizational, analytical and interpersonal skills. Experience in purchasing, vendor transactions and account maintenance is desirable. Excellent computer skills with a variety of applications including programs such as Excel, MS Word, internet browsers, and e-mail. Applicants should possess excellent verbal communication skills, good client service attitude, and an attention to detail. Experience in legal and library environments is also helpful. Some lifting of books is required.
