Principles, practices and procedures of public librarianship.
Classifying
and cataloging procedures and principles including Library of Congress
Subject Headings, the Dewey Decimal Classification System, Alpha Numeric
System for Collection of Recording Classification System (ANSCR).
Library, reference and database resources.
Principles and practices of library materials acquisition.
Conservation and preservation techniques for library material.
Automated
library systems, emerging library technologies, office automation
software and applicable computer software applications and online
databases.
Budget development and management.
Principles and practices of supervision and training.
Effective supervisory techniques.
Effective customer service techniques.
Ability to:
Plan, supervise and coordinate the activities of a library.
Select, train and evaluate employees.
Promote interest in library services.
Develop and conduct training programs.
Use complex computer programs and systems.

Education, Training and Experience
Master’s degree in Library Science from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited college or university.
Four years of recent, paid progressively responsible work experience as a professional librarian. At least two of the four years must have included supervising or coordinating the work of others.
