THE POSITION: The Marin County Free Library seeks a dynamic
and patron oriented librarian to join our team as the E-Services Manager.
Reporting to the Deputy Director, the E-Services Manager will be responsible
for planning, implementing, and supporting e-services for the library, and will
develop and implement a program of educational opportunities to meet the technology
learning needs of our community. This position is responsible for the
administration and efficient daily operation of the Marin County Free Library's
e-branch, training for staff and the public on the Library’s e-resources, and
ensuring the best possible experience for the Library’s virtual (and physical)
patrons. Responsibilities include managing all patron interfacing online
services (excluding the online catalog and other resources run by the MARINet
consortium), e-content, social media, and electronic resources. The challenging

IDEAL CANDIDATE: The ideal
candidate for E-Services Manager will have experience as a professional
librarian and selecting library materials to meet the needs of an online
community. They will have experience with Sierra, or a comparable integrated
library system, and with Content Management System (CMS) software, such as
Drupal. The ideal candidate will also
have knowledge of current web standards, ADA requirements, responsive design,
and best web and mobile design practices. He or she will also have excellent problem-solving
skills, and the ability to communicate effectively and courteously with staff
and vendors. In addition, the ideal candidate should have an interest in
learning new technologies, and with optimizing the user experience for people
using our online services. The ideal candidate will have an awareness of
library trends, familiarity with vendors of library technology products and the
ability to work independently on project implementations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education
- Equivalent to an American Library Association approved Master’s degree in Library Science, Library and Information Services, or similar curriculum and three years of experience as a professional librarian. Overall work experience must include two years of supervisory experience which may have been obtained in a position other than professional librarian.
Experience
- Experience using current technology in the primary area to which assigned is required. Experience in a public library setting is highly desirable.
TENTATIVE EXAM SCHEDULE: Depending on the number of qualified
applications received, the examination process may consist of a highly
qualified review, supplemental application screening, online assessment,
written examination, oral examination, performance examination, or any
combination to determine which candidates’ names will be placed on the eligible
list. In the event that additional
testing is not conducted, applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will
be notified to contact the department in the order their applications are received
by the Human Resources Department.
