Position Summary:
Working with the Middle School Director and Curriculum
Director, the successful candidate will play a leading role in the exciting
process of developing the CAIS middle school library program as the middle
school moves to a new campus in August, 2015. This will include creating and
integrating an effective research curriculum, utilizing print, media, and
database technologies, assisting the Director of Educational Technology with
tech integration across the curriculum, and identifying opportunities for the library
to support curricular units in all subject areas. A key component of the
school’s strategic vision developed in 2013 was to find additional facilities
for the school’s growing student population. CAIS is in the process of
renovating two educational facilities within walking distance of the main
campus to be used as the new CAIS Middle School. A prominent feature of this
new facility is a 2000 square foot Learning Center. The primary role of the
newly created Learning Center Coordinator position will be to grow the CAIS
middle school library program to best utilize this new space to enhance student
academic achievement.
Main Areas of Focus and Responsibility:
● Development of digital, print and other media collection
● Collaborate with faculty to maximize use of Learning
Center
● Supervision of Learning Center space
● Development of integrated curriculum
Specific Duties:
● Work with the Educational Technology Director, Curriculum
Director, and the Lower School Librarian to develop and deliver the new Learning
Commons educational program
● Establish and maintain a welcoming, well-used and
well-supervised space that supports the CAIS learning community
● Collaborate with teachers to support the effective
integration of information and communication skills and technologies to enhance
student learning
● Teach students, staff and community how to access,
evaluate, use, share, and create information from a variety of sources
● Model and promote literacy and the enjoyment of reading in
all media formats
● Develop the collection of print and electronic materials
to support reading for pleasure as well as the school's educational curriculum
● Collaborate with the Chinese Program Director and Chinese
language faculty to develop Chinese language collection
● Work as a full member of the middle school teaching team,
including serving as a student advisor and other duties as needed
● Consult with the Middle School Director, Curriculum
Director, Chinese Program Director, Educational Technology Coordinator and CFO
to develop the Learning Center’s annual budget
● Manage purchasing for the Learning Center, in consultation
with business office and the Middle School faculty and administration
● Support the school’s communication strategies, including
communication with the community about Learning Center resources and programs
● Cooperate with facilities personnel on issues of room set
up for various events
● Assist with supervisory and chaperoning duties as required
Required Qualifications:
● A teacher librarian or technology/media specialist
● Experience working with middle school students and faculty
● Three or more years of experience working in a school
environment
● Leadership: demonstrated ability to lead teams
collaboratively and achieve objectives
● Planning: ability to think ahead and plan over a one- to
two-year time span
● Management: ability to organize and manage multiple
priorities
● Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
● A collaborative, flexible, approachable temperament
● Commitment to school Mission, values and vision
● Initial and continued criminal background clearance by DOJ
and FBI as required by law
