Santa Clara University Library - Library Catalog Maintenance Project Specialist - Part Time


Santa Clara University Library would like to invite applicants for a Library Catalog Maintenance Project Specialist position.

This is a 10-month temporary half-time appointment available starting September 1, 2015.  Hours are flexible and work can be performed remotely.  Hourly rate: $30-$34.

Deadline: Until position is filled.  Review of applications begins on August 31, 2015.

Responsibilities
  • Complete record splitting and cleanup of approximately 2,000 serial titles. This includes the following tasks.
  • Investigate the adequacy of bibliographic records,and update or replace the records via copy cataloging when needed
  • Investigate the accuracy of local holdings information and update check-in records and item records when needed
  • Use the separate-record approach for cataloging to ensure there is a bibliographic record for each format of a title in the catalog and accurate holdings records are attached correctly
  • Update Local Holdings Records in OCLC WorldCat
  • Work on other catalog cleanup projects for Special Collections and/or database maintenance as time allows


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree or equivalent degree by date of application
  • Two or more years experience working in an academic library or for an integrated library system vendor
  • Knowledge of cataloging standards, e.g., AACR2, RDA, MARC, LCSH, LC Classification


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience of cataloging, especially serial cataloging
  • Familiarity with Innovative Interfaces Inc. library integrated system (Millennium or Sierra)
  • Experience in using OCLC Connexion for cataloging
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
